To power my 6k blackmagic on my gimbal I use a 10000 mh battery with an extra long usb C cable that I stick in my shirt pocket. It is the best way fo me to keep the weight down since it’s not directly attached to the gimbal. Sure, the cable Can sometimes get snagged and can cause a little balance issues but most of the time it works “60 percent of the time”.

I’m powering my 6k with a dummy battery connected to my vmount plate with a vmount battery on it - may sound dumb but how can I power it without the plate? (I have a handheld rig)

are you still using this gimbal for the 6k pro? I see they have the rs2 pro combo on sale for 780, but wondering if I should get the rs3 pro combo for better balancing?

Ummm get a dual handle grip, a v mount battery with a v mount plate that has more than two outputs so you can take off the s2s battery module. Attach the ronin, the vmount battery plus plate to the dual handle grip and wire evrything accordingly. You shoot all day, your gimbal isn't working twice as hard with all that weight cause its off the axis'

I have been super frustrated about this as well so thank you for making this video. Ok you got the camera & battery on an RS2. How much more weight can you add when you add lenses & follow focus? and how much clearance do you get for longer lenses?
@willram8083
@willram8083 3 жыл бұрын
The RS2 can support loads up to 10lbs. Clearance for lenses is unaffected by the battery and can shift based on additional counterweights which can be added as needed. I'm not sure what the exact max lens clearance is though

@@willram8083 but why not just mount the battery between the handgrip and the tripod legs (that’s why you get the core power edge with the removable plate) and use a 12” d tap cable? Then your not adding additional weight to the motors.
@willram8083
@willram8083 2 жыл бұрын
@@guam7600 The 1/4 20 plate on the batttery is very loose and wiggly, I don't really trust it and it makes too much noise. Also this rig is intended to be used with any v-mount battery. Plus with the battery mounted on the plate under the camera you have minimal dangling cables that can get caught restricting the movement of the camera

I have some questions as it's pretty hard to choose between the 6k and 6k pro haha. I've never had a video camera, so I'm somehow afraid that it will be too heavy with the Pocket 6k Pro (1.2 kg DJI Rs 2 stabilizer, 800g Sigma 18-35 mm, 1.2 kg Pocket 6k Pro, and another battery or SSD.) Do you think that could be the case? Especially when you e.g. film the whole day or when you travel and still have a drone. I also wonder if the 6k Pro's "tilting screen" is really necessary? (I filmed with the Gopro and the cell phone on a stabilizer and never really had any problems, even when I walked very close to the floor. Maybe it's different with the camera, as many 6k users said it is necessary). Buying one later would make less sense, as it costs more and is perhaps even more uncomfortable if you use the stabilizer and fix a "DJI 3D focus system" / microphone on the "head" of the camera. I've already looked a bit on the internet and apparently the 6k Pro fits on the RS 2, but it's not yet entirely clear to me whether that's really true. I have one last question then I say more than thank you; Do you actually need nd filters a lot in filmmaking? great video liked thxx
@jeffsnider8040
@jeffsnider8040 2 жыл бұрын
I have the 6k + RS2. In this scenario, I can't imagine that you're going to want to adjust your tilting screen once you have everything balanced. Besides, you can use the Raveneye and a phone if you really want to a tilt screen. ND filters are essential especially for outdoor shooting. Without ND you have far less control over your depth of field (since you would only be able to control the light with your aperture and ISO). You're essentially at the mercy of the sun and cloud cover. If you are indoors and have complete control over your lights (ie light kit), then you could get away with not using them.

This is a great solution. The benefit of the Tilta power base plate is that you can switch out batteries very quickly without plugging cables in and out, so it might be worth it for some people. Personally I like your solution much better

I've been looking everywhere but I cant find it anywhere. I understand that v-mount powers the camera. But can the V-Mount power the gimbal too as a trickle charge as it is on and operating?
@willram8083
@willram8083 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried it but in theory you could also charge the RS2 at the same time with a usb to usb c cable from the battery. Though the main goal with this rig was keeping the blackmagic camera running for long periods of time without any odd dangling cables that could restrict movement. The v mount also allows you to easily swap batteries without removing the camera or throwing off balance. The RS2 lasts a few hours on a full charge which for most cases is more than enough for most use cases involving the grip battery. You could also ring mount tue gimbal which would allow you to easily use another v mount with an adaptor.

@willram8083
@willram8083 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this video is intended to show a cost effective method of attaching the v mount battery to the rs2 vs the tilta v mount plate which is excessively expensive. Sorry for the confusion the issue at the beginning was with my Fuji XS-10 which kept dying because I wasn’t using my wall adaptor and those small batteries don’t last too long

The only thing I’m not too excited about is the added weight. I’m considering clipping the v-mount battery to my belt. I’d like some kind of break away cable though. Could see myself forgetting it’s attached.
@willram8083

The weight hasn't really been an issue in my experience. Any more weight than this though and I would consider going with either a ring mount with an easyrig or something like the the Tilta float system www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1614551-REG/tilta_gss_t01_v_float_handheld_gimbal_support.html

@@willram8083 I ended up going with a monopod, and using a long power cable. The battery is mounted on the monopod, closer to the bottom and really works as a nice counterbalance. I can get high and low angles, pseudo-crane shots all without wrecking my back. Also I have the quick release system for batteries and on the bottom of the RS2, so I'm not having to unhitch a bunch of cables or unscrew the monopod every time I want to put it down.

@willram8083
@willram8083 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, it balances just fine. I’ve used this setup regularly without any issues. Also this is a much cheaper alternative to the tilta attachment which does the same thing. tilta.com/shop/battery-plate-to-rs-2-power-pass-through-plate-kit/ In addition if you do need to swap out a battery if you use the same model you won’t need to rebalance afterwards. The one thing to watch out for on weight is making sure your battery and camera don’t go over the 10lbs weight limit for the RS2. Other than that it’s all good!
