I think for beginners powerlifting works better. Why? Because it's focus on progression. The biggest mistake I see most of the time is 0 progression. They do their sets of 10-15 reps and thats it. Same weight same reps for months or years and ofc 0 result. When they start to focus on gaining strength the progression is easily measurable and as soon as they start to overload their lifts, they instantly see results.

Best comment ever, about "no progress". I've started working out again after 25 years and someone pointed out Wendler 531. I'm stronger now, then I ever was in my twenties.

Tbh I always preferred strength training in general compared to aesthics but then my goal physique is more lined in with a powerlifters physique.

I agree with powerlifting before bodybuilding. Get strong first. Then you can lift heavy weights for high reps.

I’v always trained like a bodybuilder, how long should I switch to a powerlifting type of workout?

Until you can deadlift 405

Usually train 3 to 6 weeks in the 1 to 5 rep range then move on to higher reps for 3 to 6 weeks. Rinse and repeat.

Depends but longer end I think should be 8-12 weeks. I would say no less than 2-4 weeks unless it's just for novelty-related purposes

Until you can't make any more progress in your SBD (squat, bench, deadlift), then opt for changing back to bodybuilding style.

Every 5 weeks minimum tbh or else its a routine if u haven't tried before after 5x5 go 5x20 route after
