For the MAJORITY of JEEPS, and 4x4s in general, that amount of lift is all that's needed IF any at all. Way to many are for looks alone.

Yep, put that money into a good, locking differential, at least for the rear, if you do not have a Rubicon. The Sahara is part way there with the LSD, but those wear over time and become an open differential when the clutch plates wear.

as an owner of a jk there are quite a few parts you cant buy anymore like a stock skid plate that holds up the gas tank and they are pretty prone to rust as well. its a fun vehicle to drive in the snow and cant wait to find a place nearby to take offroad near me in illinois

Plus gears and axles. I assume they are not 44s under it since it is not a Rubicon. 35s on a Dana 30 isn't a recipe for success.

Yeah...I think this build is gonna be more about buying parts at Summit vs tried and true mods that make a non-Rubicon Jeep last offroad. Also the way they were cooking those 35"s in the rocks, that axle is not long for this world...

This isn't a jeep build. This is the START of a jeep build. Driveshafts are on a timer now, as is the transmission, without re-gearing. Since you're in the difference, might as well add lockers. This is why jeeps are so expensive.

@@vanillagorilla911can always beef everything else up so when something does eventually fail it'll be even more costly. We always beef everything but the driveshafts in our 1000hp+ burnout builds in Australia. Would rather see a stock driveshaft shit the bed after hours of constant abuse than a $14,000 gear box or $9500 rear diff.

Trade the light bar and skid plates and fancy rims for a rear locker and steel wheels then maybe a pair of gloves to handle the steel winch line if you're feelin it

@@crabbyfrog steel wheels are stronger and will bend not crack. A cracked aluminum wheel will leave you stranded but a bent steel wheel could be bent back to get you home.

A reliable 3.8l V-6, the 3.6 is reliable in stock form with a slight tune and exhaust. Swap that 3.8l for a 5.7l Hemi with 345 hp, that's reliable.

A better idea would be to replace the V6 with the inline 4L from the previous year. Better engine all around. V6's suck butt. 😉

@@MatthewBerginGarage , if I didn't have the budget for a Pentastar; a previous generation I-6 4.0l would be a great choice. I saw a video where they stroked a 4.0 to 4.6 and made 282 hp and over 300 tourque. With an unlimited budget a Cummins 2.8l I-4 is the ticket. They need to get some Dana 44's from a junkyard.

@@matthewmeaux3450 I want neither. Diesels are too complicated and fragile if they are new and too heavy and gutless if old. A 4L inline 6 has 7 main bearings and is easily capable of lasting 500,000 miles and will get the job done.

Based off parts selection axles, gears and lockers would be a good idea as well. I don't see a Rubicon livery on it so I assume kth has something weaker than Dana 44s. And something for performance. Those things are already slow and with the bigger wheels and heavy bumpers it will be even slower.

Never seen an axle shaft removed to replace wheel studs. That's uh...one way to do it I suppose.

I have a 2014 JKU with 157k on the odometer. Bought it new. 2.5 lift ( jks) running 33” BF KO2S. Deleted the rear seat replaced with sleep platform touring most of the west and Midwest. Have replaced 3 oil coolers, rocker roller herrings twice, new radiator, valve cover gasket, serpentine belt, ABS control module ( had to wait over a year for that part to be available) ! I limited the lift to 2.5 to avoid the front drive line issues, still wound up replacing the front rezeppa joint with an after market open flange joint. No problems since. How many miles on your Jeep?

@@edzimdahl1158 yeah it was pretty awful tv. The Roller they hacked the hydraulic system on and the super short VW bus they smeared 50lbs of mud on instead of fixing them properly were cringy. As a Ferrari fan watching them "customize" an F40 (albeit a wrecked one) was hard to watch.

Lemme get this straight. You bought a JK with the weak-ass 3.8L engine (200hp). Then you put on 35 inch tires without gearing down the front and rear ends, heavy front and rear bumpers, heavy rock sliders, a heavy winch, and heavy skid plates. You did nothing to improve engine power or engine cooling, despite the fact that this Jeep is gonna have to work much harder just driving around normally. It's only got a crappy 4 speed auto transmission and no locking diffs!!!

Parts are cheap, as long as not Mopar. Having a 2016 Sahara and recently buying a 2010 Rubicon, very low miles (59k). I realize the “Oil Cooler” of the Pentastar is the EGR valve of the 3.8.

I don't get people's fascination with the Wrangler. It's as crude a 1950s pickup and just as slow. A buddy has a Rubicon and at 70mph with the soft top and doors on you can't hear each other without yelling.

Summit is a cool place to visit and look around but a horrible place to shop . You basically have to stand in line 3 different times to buy one part . Really bad if you get the wrong part and have to start all over .

Why waste all that time and money for 2 inches? My stock jk has 35’s with just a mild trim of the horrible looking factory brush guards and the the right wheel offset. I have no rubbing or issues at all. All that money and some real advise would have been save your money on stupidities and buy an air locker, or hey this is just a thought but how about a show on a diy air locker being that this a diy show. What happened to the old style truck shows?

Curious of your thoughts on that. I have a Rubicon Express on my CJ and it's been good. Shopping for a 1 to 2.5 inch lift for my JK. Leaning Teraflex, but the RE is a bit cheaper.

@@spuddoright1970 Had Rubicon Express, if you have a pavement Princess it’s great! If you’re hitting the dirt spend the extra money, there’s a reason it’s cheaper. MetalCloak, Teraflex or Rock Krawler would all be great choices!

It sure does look great. But.... "Extreme Off-Road" and "Open Diff Dana 30" don't really go together. And with the larger (and heavier) wheels and tires, opening that tailgate on the stock hinges is going to become increasingly challenging over time. The incredibly powerful 205HP 3.8L engine is not going to like those big tires, either. You've built a nice enough budget Jeep, but come on. Be honest. There is nothing remotely "extreme" about this Jeep.

2 Door Jk Sport with soft top and 6 speed manual here, no power windows, no push start, no fancy big screen with a back up camera. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Give me the real Jeep experience, or as close to it as it once was lol.

They aren't bad. At least they don't have them sticking 4" outside of the fender or have to cut safety bracing like Cajun man did on the F150 SRT10 build off because of stupid offsets. For me polished Micky Thompson Classic 3s are pretty snazzy. But that's just me. My truck is a dark green so a bit of bright is nice.
