Great lesson. Sad to see the advantage spoiled. I saw Levon was in trouble, I didn't know it was from a Rossolimo. I do enjoy this event, seeing the world's elite play against many different opponents that they often do not play. And for some reason, the favorites don't seem to win too frequently. If memory serves.

I did come up with the b5 move, but I didn't see the Bb4 that followed. I was thinking that after Qa5, c5 would be next, and white has to play Ne3 to stop the mate, then black continues to press forward on the queen's side with Rc6, preparing Ra6. Bb4 is much more effective.

Not luck. Aronian showed his class in turning this around against admittedly, a much weaker opponent. To me it looked tricky with the white queen being so restricted, even though Daniel points out that white should have won.

Compared to your suggestion ( Ng4-h6-f5) in the game white has an extra tempo of sort ( He didn't play h3 and he played another potentially more useful move instead)). Now, I don't know how beneficial that is to white, but the first impression is that it is.

I don't think it makes a massive difference. Fundamentally, Black has a very sound position. By the way, it was also possible for Black to play ...Bg4 and then play the knight round to e6.

I found the trick right away for once, based on the fact that White's Queen had very few squares available. Nice setup and recovery by Aronian after a disastrous opening!

Levon played like a 1500 in the st half. Got to a messy loosing position. But the mess on the board was too much for the opponent to figure out. I have not seen this much mess on the board in my life.

This game really just goes to show how poor FIDE Masters are really, when compared to Grandmasters. To blow a position a piece up when you have a Master title just feels like it shouldnt be forgivable. FM's teach chess to others yet can't seem to convert wins themselves. I dont mean to cause offence but its baffling to me.

Have to disagree. It’s like in football when a team is 3-0 up after 30 minutes and think they have won the game. He failed to press his advantage at key moments and therefore only has himself to blame - and Levon played the latter half of the game very well.

Guess that as in Olímpic Games proceed that a Team of refugees and no Country should have his own team. Maybe Mr Carlsen can patreon that Team as IS the only one with money enough to do It ... Aronian's ... Nh5-g7-e6 (or f5) deployment borrows an idea Marin recommends in his volume on the ... e5 English, with colors reversed.

Yes, it is seen with colours reversed in the English, but a tempo down it is pushing it. By the way, White had no need to exchange on c6, but I glossed over that in the video.
