I only had a few Irish whiskey's: Jameson, redbreast 12 and teeling small batch, three woods, 21 one, black pits ( for teeling I was in tasting haven't got my own bottles)

Now that sounds really good. The banana’s foster note sounds really good. The store by me has one bottle left of this one but I keep passing on it but now I’m going to have to grab it. Great job Matt!

ive had the red label of Powers and it is very good juice. ill be sure to keep an eye out for this bottle at the stores to hopefully grow my Irish collection!

This is a lovely whiskey. I'm getting some real old-time notes from it, not like an old whiskey, but a whiskey laced with old-time smells and tastes. Think Play-dough, marla, old-school rubbers, swizzle sticks, vanilla and banana. I'm not sure I've ever tasted a whiskey that reminded me so much of childhood scents and tastes, but this one definitely does. It's really lovely and very well priced at the moment. (€30 in Supervalu, Dec '24)

@johnc3403 yeah, this is one of the best value drams about, especially with the Supervalu loyalty card bringing it down to €25 this Christmas! Not life-changing, but always reliable.

Love the history of the "three swallows", and the sound of that bananas foster note! I'm imagining all that rich caramel coming off of it. I'll always go back to my Redbreast, but this sounds like a nice little alternative. Thanks Matt!

Definitely a nice alternative, and a bit easier on the price, so maybe a better one to mix. Got a few suggestions for cocktails since it has those banana and coconut notes, so I'm definitely trying some out!

This is an absolutely fantastic whiskey and great value for money. In my humble opinion Power's whiskies are way nicer that Jamesons.

Pot still whiskies offer a very unique nose and flavor profile. Not for everyone but certainly fun to try, especially for a change.

Recently had this in Dublin after being recommended by the barman, absolutely loved it! Have lived in Scotland for the last few years so have been mostly drinking Scotch, but will definitely have to try some more Irish Pot Still whiskeys now.

Great to hear! Pot Still whiskeys can be a really fun category to explore as they all have some of the same DNA, but there's enough freedom for distillers to make something unique!

@@TheWhiskeyNerd If you get a chance to pickup the 3 Swallows that has the higher ABV that would also make for a great video to compare it to the 12 year Jon’s Lane.. It’s mind boggling how many whiskies I hear of that are lowered in Proof in different regions. It makes no sense to sell us in the states one thing and every where else another 🤦🏻‍♂️

Under €100, my preference is for Blue Spot (€80), if that's unavailable, redbreast 12 Cask Strength (€100). Powers John's Lane (€70) or the brand new Jameson 5 Oak Single Pot Still (€60) are also good options

What makes this stand out the most for me is the banana!

I know! Must have been the combination of the creaminess from the Pot Still distillate and the caramel/brown sugar from the bourbon casks. We tried it in a tropical cocktail (The Cowgirl's Downfall) a few weeks ago, and it worked really well!
