Here in France we have diesel wich take fuel fill up at the pump to program regenerations. So,if peoples go often at the gas station to fill up for few bucks only each time,the regen kick in very often. Or an other known problem is a battery ,with a voltage dropping just enough to resetting the ecu memory ,but not enough to create starting problems,wich do not allow regen to being done,so create other problems.

Just bought a F-350 Lariat 2011. Whoever owned this truck before kept it in excellent condition and really took care of the truck maintenance since 2011. But 2 days after we bought it from Ford dealership, that "Drive to clean exhaust" message came on (We bought this truck because my wife and I are planning to get a 5th wheel but in the meantime we won't be driving far distances for probably the next 3 months) so I drove the truck non stop for about 20 miles and the drive to clean message disappeared from the Information option. It did not show that it was completed, but it hasn't come back on again. Maybe 'cause it got to a percentage where the computer says it's ok. I've read that some people had to drive for more than 45 minutes and still it wouldn't regen. I guess it just builds up if you just drive it short distances all the time. The truck runs super smooth and it's got great pick up when I need to speed up. I'm very pleased with it so far.

Good video. Thx for the Help. I have a 2012 Ford f350 that went into def engine idle only mode. I'm also a semi truck driver. And deal with def regen all the time. So I replaced my MAF sensor because of engine light on. Then I basically manually egen'd my Ford by keeping the rpm's between 1500 and 2000. Ideally at 17-1800. I set a timer and it took 6 and half minutes and the def light turned off and my truck was able to drive away. If you dont believe me at 38 years old. Ask my mom that I drove off from. 👍 It's dumb we dont have manual regens available like we do on the semi trucks. Hope this helps. It worked for me. Also I don't have a computer. But it's been running ever since. I've sat on the side of the road in older Mack pinnacles while it has a button to manual regen. I did this process in my 2012 Ford f350 and have been running ever since.

@bradynevels6874 Жыл бұрын
Great information. The only thing I would disagree with you on is your statement about lesser fuel mileage on the 6.7 power stroke. If I’m just driving it on the highway with no load I can get 18 and 19 miles to the gallon with it. That was the same story on the 2004 we had with the 6.0 L. They ran very similar on fuel mileage under the same driving conditions. Our 2004 was a three-quarter ton and now we have a 2017 1 ton. Of course all of this depends on a person‘s driving style. Using quality DEF helps keep the system clean also. I see nothing but problems with pouring straight water into it.

So I have a quick question about this process. I own a 7.3 but am always trying to expand my knowledge. If these systems are put on the newer trucks to keep the "pollution" from going into the environment. Wouldn't a regen burning it out put worse stuff into the environment during that process than just not having the system in the first place? Would a stock truck during the regen process pass emissions?
@upurnose466 жыл бұрын
I think its just for visual effect, the hippies dont like it when they see a truck with a big plume of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe
@billcraddock71666 жыл бұрын
No, long story short. The DPF/DEF system uses urea as a catalyst to clean the exhaust soot and gases prior to ejection from the final exhaust exit. The exhaust is literally emitting cleaner air than the engine initially ingested. To answer the 2nd question, yes the vehicle would pass an E test during regen.
@Manisj16 жыл бұрын
Damien: there are 4 main parts to an aftertreatment system. Doc dpf mixer and scr/amox. The doc is a flow through device that captures and burns unburned hydrocarbons. It also converts some Nox to the fast reaction no2. Also, carbon monoxide is reduced in the doc. The dpf captures ash and carbon particles. Regen gets enough oxygen and heat to burn that carbon down to a smaller ash and thus clean the system. The mixer / decomp tube is where the def is injected. The scr then does the final clean up where nh3 ammonia breaks down the Nox into nitrogen gas and water. The final part, amox helps protect the system from sending ammonia out into the environment
@upurnose466 жыл бұрын
I work for UPS. Any time i drive one of their diesel trucks it always goes into regen. I'm assuming because of all the stop and go the dpf is always getting filled up. Its a freightliner but i think they use a detuned cummins engine. I think its detuned becuase they aren't that fast but i had one that had power loss and it tripped the engine light on, once that light came on i had full power and the turbo spooled up like i never heard it before and the damn thing took off, faster than normal and ran great. Eventually it went back into normal mode.

Great video guys. But one thing is Running a Regen does not clean DPF. Running a regen turns soot to ash. Every regen completed fills the DPF substrate channels with ASH. Ash will create back PSI causing issues up stream. The filter will need to be removed for service at some point if you want a truly cleaned filter.

Does cutting diesel with some K1 Kerosene helps clear the filter during Exhaust Cleaning?
@akbychoice5 жыл бұрын
Sfer Tonoc kerosene is the same as #1 diesel ( winter diesel ) also essentially the same as Jet-A that aircraft run the turbines on. It has less BTUs but burns cleaner for lamps and heaters.

There should be a DPF filter exchange program

Cretens they should be easier to clean completely without removing them from the vehicle.

How does archoil help with the dpf???

Haha, yep.... They're here! Just keep your diesels running clean people!.... Blowing soot puts a huge "black mark" on diesels as a whole. If everyone took care of their diesels the soot issue wouldn't have been pushed so far yet.

Spahi77 the fuel additive increases the combustiblity of the diesel, hence less soot clogging the dpf over time.

This is why you should look into doing an EGR Delete! Another plus is pulling that 85 lbs EGR/Cat and go to a strait pipe! I had to put up with the Regen crap on my 2012 Peterbuilt... and it's a fuel mileage killer! Just so the Snowflakes don't see the diesel smoke out the exhaust... Love my 7.3, it's blows some really black smoke when I dial up stage 5 or 6 :)

Hi Bill, what are your thoughts on bypass oil filters for the 6.7? Also, is it true that oil life and engine life can be drastically increased by adding one? I’m buying a newer rig and I’d like to know what I should make a purchase priority for longevity, these trucks are expensive as shit.
@airhorn21116 жыл бұрын
They should have just put a switch or button on the truck somewhere to run a DPF clean-out! That would have eliminated a HUGE number of problems with them. But I know-gotta have cash flow PER QUARTER.
