So instead of keeping my truck forever, I have to buy a whole new truck every few years... and that's green? What would we do without government?
@TrashPanda28014 жыл бұрын
common sense is something that doesn't exist in politics. The fact that theres a giant hunk of shit (that costs 2500 dollars btw, ask me how i know) that goes to a junkyard everytime the dpf goes bad doesn't sound so great for the environment, or the fact that it burns a significant amount more gas with dpf than without, or again what you said, the fact that unwrecked trucks are getting sent to scrapyards with as low as 200,000 miles is ridiculous.

I think since 2017 with the cost of diesels as an option and their limited life now (220,000 max, was 1 million) you can no longer recover your investment on a diesel. Plus add the urea iniection (DEF), DPF and EGR maintenance you just lose out as a non commercial owner. The discussion about the sensors and the cross referencing of all those values? What do you think the chance is for a check engine light? The EPA simply has choked the life of a diesel into the ground for the regular guy.

I have been told that in California, you can't even clean or rebuild a DPF legally, you are required to buy a new OEM DPF when your DPF fails. I hope I'm never in California. In order to extend DPF life, Mercedes, VW, and BMW have their own oil specifications which have about 500-600 PPM of phosphorous. They can do that because they build DOHC engines. I think a Ford PSD or any other OHV diesel would quickly fail if that kind of oil was used.

I see a few comments here saying DELETE. Local shops in Texas are selling parts but refuse to do the work. EPA has issued $1,000,000 fines for installing the equipment. So they refuse now. But what about spot checks? Not planning to go anywhere? Farm truck only? That's not what the truck is for? Is the $3750 fine per device worth it? I see Oregon and Mississippi are the only states not checking at all. Yes, we understand that as the owner, you can do whatever you want to your truck. However, if the rig is driven on the public roads, the federal Clean Air Act (CAA) still makes it illegal to mess with anything related to pollution control. To that end, the CAA gives the Environmental Protection Agency and its assigned outlets the right to prosecute anyone for removing, tampering with, or modifying pollution-related parts on any vehicle, as well as the right to prosecute the owner of said vehicle. To what extent the prosecution goes seems very vague from the response we got when we asked the EPA about the specifics on the enforcement and fines, which, according to Title II of the CAA, can be up to $3,750 per device removed and $37,500 per vehicle modified. Obviously California is the worst place to go.

That DPF filter can be cleaned. It has to cut out of system with a cutting wheel (works great and is easy, make sure to mark it for alignment) after dpf is cleaned just realign and weld back together.

Would using a chemical cleaner such as Liqui Moly DPF cleaner every so often help? I have a '15 Ecodiesel and '14 Bluetec both are highway vehicles, until I switched jobs and primarily drive in town with the truck now. But take it on a weekly 1 hour long interstate trip, and use hot shot secret haven't got a chance to try the Archoil. I'm assuming alot of the fleet issues are due to idling for long periods, or constant in town deliveries.

This is for the guys who work for the US Government please get rid of the DPF/EGR/SCR systems on the New Diesel Trucks and to hell with the legality aspect of it Deleteing the Diesel Trucks shouldn’t be illegal EVER

Yeah, fuck the world! More smoke, I want to die!
@cbmech25635 жыл бұрын
All of this is in an effort to eliminate nitrous oxide . First they put an egr system on to cool off combustion temperature to reduce nitrous . But that makes the engine run like crap and make lots of smoke necessitating the soot trap and then you still need the catalyst and Def to take care of the nitrous the engine still produces . Why not just make the engine run right and then take care of the nitrous anyway . Cat mechanical injection engines in the late 70s and 80s met today's smoke standard and then the feds started towards mandating all this garbage . It's why cat doesn't make a truck engine anymore .

The best way to maintain your DPF is to put it safely in the barn, reprogram, and never have to worry about it again.

Cant you enable a operator manual regen in the instrument cluster with the ids so that the customers can start one them selves.

I went to a gas truck for this reason. I loved diesels before all this stuff. At this point unless a diesel is highly profitable it's not worth it.

As a GM guy i might go to Ford for two reasons going forward. 1. the 7.3 gasser Godzilla, and they still can be deleted unlike a GM l5P....technically and L5P can be delted, but for that cost, i would go to Ford while i can.
@natehawkins29105 жыл бұрын
All you have to do is turn on “Operator Commanded Regen (OCR) feature” and you can tell when it’s needing regen and how well it’s being cleaned. I’m guessing the engine burning excessive oil actually took out the DPF not the other way around. These trucks can go 300,000 miles easily on the original DPF if you keep it clean. Turning on OCR display is as easy as a click of the mouse.
