I think since 2017 with the cost of diesels as an option and their limited life now (220,000 max, was 1 million) you can no longer recover your investment on a diesel. Plus add the urea iniection (DEF), DPF and EGR maintenance you just lose out as a non commercial owner. The discussion about the sensors and the cross referencing of all those values? What do you think the chance is for a check engine light? The EPA simply has choked the life of a diesel into the ground for the regular guy.

@@woodyfregia6653 I can't find a single dealer who's had a post 2017 motor come in with more than 220,000 miles and some major maintenance prior to that point. In the old days it was just broken in. Now, at 220,000 you've spent $5000 somewhere (fuel rail, fouled injectors- injector pump now at 20,000 psi and going higher) don't have clean fuel you've killed an injector... Maybe you've had 300,000 but how much did you spend to get there? Again I'm talking post 2017.

They should cut the exhaust assembly and reweld it after cleaning the sections separately. It's fairly simple to do for a stainless steel welder with a good MIG welder. You couyd even make and sell Vbands kits to get the unit serviceable then. way cheaper than buying a new one, profitable enough also,it's simple piping work for a welder.

I have been told that in California, you can't even clean or rebuild a DPF legally, you are required to buy a new OEM DPF when your DPF fails. I hope I'm never in California. In order to extend DPF life, Mercedes, VW, and BMW have their own oil specifications which have about 500-600 PPM of phosphorous. They can do that because they build DOHC engines. I think a Ford PSD or any other OHV diesel would quickly fail if that kind of oil was used.

I see a few comments here saying DELETE. Local shops in Texas are selling parts but refuse to do the work. EPA has issued $1,000,000 fines for installing the equipment. So they refuse now. But what about spot checks? Not planning to go anywhere? Farm truck only? That's not what the truck is for? Is the $3750 fine per device worth it? I see Oregon and Mississippi are the only states not checking at all. Yes, we understand that as the owner, you can do whatever you want to your truck. However, if the rig is driven on the public roads, the federal Clean Air Act (CAA) still makes it illegal to mess with anything related to pollution control. To that end, the CAA gives the Environmental Protection Agency and its assigned outlets the right to prosecute anyone for removing, tampering with, or modifying pollution-related parts on any vehicle, as well as the right to prosecute the owner of said vehicle. To what extent the prosecution goes seems very vague from the response we got when we asked the EPA about the specifics on the enforcement and fines, which, according to Title II of the CAA, can be up to $3,750 per device removed and $37,500 per vehicle modified. Obviously California is the worst place to go.

@@oletom6970 My old man had a 1973 3/4 ton GMC Sierra pickup (with camper special package and 454 CI big block) that he ordered from the local dealer at the time and that bad boy pulled 30 ft gooseneck trailers full of cattle or round bales of hay with no problems for 20 years until he finally wore it smooth out. That truck was a beast and I loved driving it as a young 16 year old because it would accelerate like the space shuttle when you floored it and that Quadra-jet would make that low whoooommmmmm noise from the secondary butterfly valves opening on that carb. Bad thing is it could pass everything except a gas station.

I'm guessing there was a LOT of idling going on with his truck. It's the nature of the delivery business. If you have a delivery route, you can't just go off and spend time driving for the hell of it because you got that goofy message on the dash telling you "more driving necessasry". We're doomed . . .

Can you safely run an old school fuel additive like Marvel Mystery Oil or Berryman’s B-12 in the fuel of these modern diesels? I’m in charge of a fleet of about 20 trucks and use the MMO consistently in port injected gas trucks and older diesel equipment. Can I use the same product on a new 6.7?

This is why Ford should do a commercial or have informed dealerships on the 6.7 2017 and up, I have a 18’ I will never have a shop do a static regen, I have the OCR turned on in my truck, when I can no longer do a drive to clean, the truck prompts me to do a OCR, operator command regen, it’s a stationary regen, I just reached 50k, only had to do one OCR, now I jut ordered from Diesel Maintenance.Com,,,a foam cleaning package for cleaning DPF’s it cost me $385, they say you don’t need to remove the exhaust to do it, just remove the forward temp sensor and use their foam injection tool, but that’s another $400, I’ll just remove the exhaust, it don’t take long, and I will do this at 75k or maybe sooner, only folks who are not informed and don’t care about properly maintaining their diesel will suffer in the wallet. I enjoy maintaining my truck, makes me feel good,,,or for a low price of $2200 get the program and the owner can do forced regens, shops around here charge $800 for a forced regen, or like the mechanic in the video states, run good clean fuel, and service your engine oil and fuel filters regularly, I do my fuel filters every time I change my oil, 5k miles, and I run archoils fuel treatment every tank, all about taking care of your stuff and generally it will take care of you in the long run

All you have to do is turn on “Operator Commanded Regen (OCR) feature” and you can tell when it’s needing regen and how well it’s being cleaned. I’m guessing the engine burning excessive oil actually took out the DPF not the other way around. These trucks can go 300,000 miles easily on the original DPF if you keep it clean. Turning on OCR display is as easy as a click of the mouse.
