A great review, as always. I like the design of this handheld, it is such a shame that it is let down by the crappy D-pad, the poor performance of the SOC, and the fact that Android is only version 7 (and they want $150 for it).

Great screen, great sound, poor interface and performance - it really misses that second analogue stick and the power to emulate the higher systems. A shame, because there is a lot to like about the form factor and ports on it. Seems pretty heavy too for a plastic shell.

Close but still lacking in power. The shell is nice (if only it would come with an aluminum/metal shell), ok display and buttons but at the current price point most people would be better off with a Pi4. I hope that in a year or 2 they finally catch up and we can get cheap but efficient handheld emulation devices

WIcked gamer, maybe you could talk some day about the aging of plastic? I have an old timer gadget and it's plastic surface has become sticky/oily and very uncomfortable to touch. Hoping that's not going to happen with the retro handhelds.

Hello how are you? First, nice to meet you. Congratulations for the channel I'm always looking at the videos there. Dude I bought a powkiddy 17 seeing your video and recommendation, I liked it a lot, but in less than 1 month of use I think it broke. The screen turns on the buttons turn on and powkiddy appears on the screen, goes to the second powkiddy screen with a light running, but when entering the system it resets and is in this loooping. Do you know if there is a concert and how could I do it? Hugs

Im sure you have seen Sonic Love and Retro Game Corps vids on this device. Retro Game Corps had good results with N64 emulation though. The specs and UI on this look like a copy paste of the X15 so surely flashing the custom rom thats available for that would work on this, just need someone to try ..😁

Use Reicast for great Dreamcast performance. Daytona runs good. And use the better N64 emulator (M64Plus FZ) runs very well too. Didi Kong Racing runs with 30fps without any problems. You can install a nice frontend (I have Arc Browser) and so on. And all the ports like Doom (GZDoom with Brutaldoom) and Quake Series (Darkplaces engine...) runs great! You can use the gyroscope to aim. And NDS with Drastic runs so nice. And Cloudgaming with Xbox Game Pass works too. I will make a video.

Great video and thank you for being honest. It will charge from the USB.....but please stay away. I have one that is trying to make it's way back to powkiddy. $62.00 to ship it back as they sent me a bricked one with a broken trigger. No more powkiddy for me. A nightmare....I have a Onn 8" pro that craps all over the x17 and only cost 50.00. Also, I tried side loading redream and it wouldn't let me upgrade to my premium account. It will not let you use Google play

It has Happy Chick. That's all you need. in a sense, they didn't lie. Show Mario Kart Mario Kart. That will be nice if it runs that well. At least the battery is decent. Just a little under what my Redmi Note 9s phone has. You have to understand, if they put a new Android in it, that's more resources and performance would be downgraded. Android 7 is what is sufficient in order to not be power hungry for gaming.

Such a shame that this device was so disappointing in terms of the SOC, D-PAD and software because in terms of layout it is pretty much perfect for me. With the screen resolution it would be pretty good fro running older PC games if it were powerful enough to emulate a Windows 98 machine.

The main problem with the x18 models is that the firmware isn't the best. Taki Udon did a video a fee years back on how to install a more efficient one but you would run the risk of bricking your device. Not worth the hassle honestly, which is a shame cause it does have some potential

It would be so nice if they would take that extra step and change the language that is spoken the most in the country you are in when buying these handhelds or when you place an order there's a spot where they ask you what language you speak the most and then take that extra step to set the language for you in the handheld, but we all know they do sh*t half-ass or not even half-ass so they certainly wouldn't do that. For them, at the end of the day it's all about making a quick buck so to speak and don't care in the slightest about quality or pleasing people who buy them. Their motto is probably quantity over quality which they should take the Japanese way which is quality over quantity, they know how to make a system and games. The best in my opinion. But they are just lazy and they don't want to put in any effort at all. How sad. 😢
