In this Video Poynting Vector is discussed with help of an Illustration of Resnick halliday Krane.
Poynting vector represents the directional energy flux (the energy transfer per unit area, per unit time) or power flow of an electromagnetic field.
The Poynting vector is named for John Henry Poynting (1852-1914), who first discussed its properties. Poynting was a British physicist who was known for his studies of electromagnetism and gravitation.
Figure 33-74 shows, a cylindrical resistor of length IS, radius a, and resistivity p, carrying current i. ,(a) Show that the Poynting vector S at the sur- face of the resistor is, everywhere directed normal to the surface, as shown. (,b) Show that the, rate Pat which energy flows into the resistor through its cylindrical surface, calculated by integrating the Poynting vector over this surface, is equal to the rate at which thermal energy is produced: ,1 = i-R, where da is an element of ,area on the cylindrical surface and R is the resistance,
