I've been stuck on a problem for more than an hour and it was just... just n=10, P=0.5... exactly, more than, less than and at least 2... You made this so much more simple. I even tried to "free tutor" program and here I am learning more on youtube.

You most probably already took ur test, but for those asking the same question, you can just also use (nCx)(p^x)(q^n-x) this is the same except the whole factorial thingy is replaced with nCx.

Depending on your textbook, if np < 5 or if nq < 5, then you CANNOT use the method described in this video. That is, if your sample size is too small, then you cannot approximate a binomial distribution with a normal distribution.

Hi Nerdyman01, "fewer than" means "less than". So, "fewer than 8" means "less than 8". And less than 8 is P(0) + P(1) + P(2) + ... + P(6) + P(7), but does not include P(8). Let's say you had to find "more than 7" which means P(8) + P(9) + ...up to P(n). Then in this case, you could find "fewer than 8" and subtract the result from 1. That's using the Complement Rule. Hope that makes sense.

Dear Sir, there is a formula used to calculate each probability, which you do not mention here, the table is nice and all, but there is a way of calculating without. why didn't you show that?
6 жыл бұрын
if u dnt have the table use the formula: P(x) =nCx (p^x) (q^n-x) ... you'll find *nCx* on your calculator

@tramdhan11110 жыл бұрын
I still don't understand why you get (.157) in the table for n=13 k=8 and p=0.5. What I see in my table the result is (.8666)
@poysermath10 жыл бұрын
We have different tables. Your table shows an accumulation of k values up to 8. In other words, your table shows you (n = 13,k = 0,p = 0.5) + (n = 13,k = 1,p = 0.5) + (n = 13,k = 2,p = 0.5) + etc... all the way up to (n = 13,k = 8,p = 0.5). So, using your table, to find the value for ONLY (n = 13,k = 8,p = 0.5)...without the accumulation of prior x-values, you will simply do the following: (n = 13,k = 8,p = 0.5) - (n = 13,k = 7,p = 0.5). These values are: .8666 - .7095 = .1571 My table does not accumulate prior x-values, like your table does.

It would've been much more helpful if you showed how to find the probabilities of the numbers instead of referring to a chart
@poysermath7 жыл бұрын
But showing you how to find probabilities involves calculus, which most of my students haven't taken yet. So, instead, we use Tables, graphing calculators, or statistical software to find probabilities for us. It's much faster, and does not require knowledge of higher math.
