Don’t really make sense that an illegal serve is called as a redo in the serve.

It’s not. The first call is called “questionable”. Basically just meaning the ref couldn’t tell if it was legal or not because it was so close. So the ball is reserved to hopefully get the player to serve in a way that isn’t so close to a fault. But when the ref actually called a fault, he overturned his own call. So none of his serves were actually illegal. Just really close.

@@Max-kj1xbthe ref thought the same thing! Up until he reviewed the footage and found that he was wrong. They are all very close but if you slow the video down, you can see that his paddle is indeed in the correct position. Barely! But still technically legal.

Dekel's been on the verge of legality with his serves for a long time, glad to see the refs starting to call it on him. He's lucky it's just a reserve here. Tardio/Daescu are too on fire recently for it to matter though.

My favorite player to watch has always been Dekel. Although him & Zane has a great partnership, Zane wasn’t so in his element on this game & had many unforced errors.

A lot of players have questionable serves, border line ridiculous serves. Dekel just happens to give the most ridiculous appearance of an illegal serve, even though technically it might be by the book. The problem is the sideways and over the top action when contacting through the ball. It just needs to be a bowling ball service motion

The biggest question with Dekel Bar’s serve is that he needs to spend more time practicing on his dinking and hand speed at kitchen. a one trick pony he is at this point.

The server’s arm must be moving in an upward arc when the ball is struck. Paddle contact with the ball must not be made above the waist level. The head of the paddle must not be above the highest part of the wrist at contact. Most of Dekel's serves are illegal, but refs aren't calling them that. The rules aren't enforced at all. I haven't watched Tyson in a while, but his serves were also illegal.

Dekel has a lot going on with his serve that can be called into question, but at the base of it all i have always been under the impression that you are not allowed to toss the ball up the way he does. Am I misunderstanding the rules?

I didn't think you were allowed to toss the ball up in PPA. I was wondering how long he was going to get away with that serve, looks boderline illegal to me

The rules don’t specify anything about NOT tossing up the ball, BUT there was a rule change a few years back about spinning the ball ( Ben johns and Zane navatril used to do that) so ya idk

At the beginning of this year PPA said no tossing the ball up but they went back on that rule you are now allowed to toss it up again

@@DevinJaksina The US Pickleball rules don't specify, but I was sure the PPA disallowed tossing. Maybe it varies for different tourneys?? When I started PB, I was constantly getting confused with the differences in rules

I think the biggest question with Dekel Bar’s serve is that he almost always served and hit the ball above his waist. The referees need to watch that more closely.

But he's not, they need to clarify if above the waist means with or without standing on your toes. Currently, by their own rules it is allowed. That being said, would hate to be the referee in these games.

​@RickJacked what they need to do is go back to the rule that you can't drop the ball from above your waist. That takes all the guess work out. It's very hard to watch in real time and see exactly where contact was made. But it's very easy to see if the ball was above the waist when it was dropped.

@@Basilisk2077 When that serve is coming at 65+ mpg, landing at the baseline, skidding across the line, and hitting you at the ankles, it's moving closer to 100ish mph relative to a tennis court when you factor in the distance and lack of space behind the service box. The issue isn't the difficulty of the serve though, it's the fact that it's illegal. I think we should be able to serve however we want, but until they change the rules, they need to enforce them.

He tosses the ball high but he waits for it to come down while also raising his body /getting on his toes so he actually does make contact at or below waist level majority of the time.

@@lucasg4170 James Ignatowich serves hard, legally. No one says a word. Personally I think the rules for the serve are an abomination. I think as long as the paddle isn't going above your shoulder (overhead) you should be able to serve however you want. I think singles SHOULD be allowed to serve over head. But, the rules should be enforced or changed.

This is NOT fun to watch because skill isn't required to hit someone. Almost anyone with a fast paddle can hit an opposing player. When the most likely winner is to tag your opponent, upper limits on pop and drive speed need to get lowered and be enforced.
