Its good to hear that you are raising up on the paint industry nowadays. And every paint manufactures has its own flaws,i believe nowadays the color of the vehicle is just getting too complicated like 3 stages and transarents reds, blue etc etc. This is why its hard for us to get the job done. I never used Axalta before but I have heard good things about this brand. With technology like spectrophotmeter, complicated colors always doesnt turn out to be a good reading. Like you mentioned in the video, tinting with the color formulae itself sometimes its just good enough. I personally like to reduce the tints first when mixing and eventually add to it so its not over reddish or over yellowish. Hope to hear more from your video on how you cope with color issues, like a very bad color match and how long you need to get the color to be able to blend and ready. it will helps new painter out there.

@@ntonytay thanks, I really appreciate that, I'm thinking of trying to film colour correction courses with the paint companies as this would be a massive help for everyone. 👍

Hi Paul, awesome video as always mate I really enjoy your videos as you always include lots of detail in your voiceover (which is spot on by the way) thanks for the shoutout Paul I don't really class myself as a true painter as I only do single panels but I do like my flowcoats😁, I can't do blending or colour match due to me being partially colour blind🙄yeah it's strange me picking a hobby where I test different colours but being colour blind🤷♂ The Porphis did a fantastic job on the clear it laid it on very flat and glassy, I have a PRD-717 1.4 and a PRD-715 1.3 tip sets arriving today for my gun so I have more choice in what the gun can do especially with the 715 setup as it's going to be a faster gun🤓😎cheers mate👍

Hi @JohnWD40TC02 thanks mate, you do great work, I think 1 in 12 men are colour blind so I bet there is a few painters out there that have had to adapt. I wonder if you paint a wing silver then scratch it and Smart repair it. If that'll be a bit of a fun experiment for you? I'm loving the Porphis brand to be honest I think you'll like the 1.3.
@JohnWD40TC022 ай бұрын
Thanks Paul, it would be interesting to see if there are any colour blind painters out there and to find out how they get by when it comes to colour matching and doing blends, I may try a smart repair at some point but I'm not sure how the blend will turn out🤔😂 Yeah the Porphis is a great gun, I used the PRD-715 1.3 setup this morning for base and it puts it on really nice and it's faster than my DV1 base gun, I'll be trying the PRD-717 1.4 for clear to see if it's any faster than my 717 1.3.

Everyone has the same thing to say about PPG. I agree Standox/Spies is more user friendly. Shoot RM, & Sherwin is even easier to use. Heck, there’s a reason Crash Champions use Glasurit, because you just roll with it. Not saying using Envirobase is impossible, it’s just not ideal. As far as robots, they would need someone to go behind the robot to catch errors.
@paulphillipspaintwork2 ай бұрын
100% I love all those brands. Ppg isn't bad paint, just the colour matching is pants. Ideally, you do spray outs 1st but in reality most shops are fast-paced and the paint is literally being mixed when the car is in the booth. Agreed too the robots will need to be maned

Take pic with camera and have it pic a solid that's what has worked best for me since ppg white pearls are always too white. Also use G3 sealer helps a ton. Love your vids bro. 1 thing with ppg you can manipulate there colors alot just by using different color sealer. For instance paint code 1f7 silver the lighter flop looks ok but looks to light to paint a bumper but if you seal it with g6 it matches. Best of luck you will dial ppg in

@joshuashattuck9267 thanks that a big help, I'll definitely try that and the sealers too. Thanks 🤘

If you have camera pick a tri coat it gonna be too white too clean that why I take pic of the tri coat itself and when you have camera pick a solid it will darken up the white you pick works really well. I'm at a shop now using glasruit 100 line but still prefer ppg over it just my preference
@paulphillipspaintwork2 ай бұрын
@joshuashattuck9267 that's a great idea, I'm definitely going to do that next time. I like Glasurit, the only thing is if you have to touch the base coat it has to be dry, like baked for 15 mins dry lol I've touched it when I thought it was dry cause it had matted off and the paint ended up rolling back on me 😫

The painter that would have the most experience with ppg is motivated painters. I'm using Imperium which is a cheaper version of sikkens auto wave. It uses the autowave database so I fight color all the time. The camera correction has a lot of trouble with the pearls in metallics and the coarseness.
@paulphillipspaintwork2 ай бұрын
@glen4407 I love Gabriel, he's a great guy, but have you ever noticed how much he blends? I'm starting to think that it's because of the colour issues. I really like sikkens, but haven't tried Imperium yet, but the cheaper versions are usually watered down a bit.
@joshuashattuck92672 ай бұрын
@@glen4407 maybe try what i recommended with the tri coats with your camera see how it goes. I don't have any experience with that paint line but sure wish you the best! Us painters always learning something fun fun fun! Best of luck all spraying!

@@paulphillipspaintwork I live about an hour from him. Here we blend everything if you want it to match. I'm in a fleet body shop. If I was out in a flat rate shop I would try to find one using paint that has better color match. Imperium cannot be checked until it's sprayed. On the stick it's green. They no longer have color decks so when the camera says there is nothing close it's good luck.
@paulphillipspaintwork2 ай бұрын
@glen4407 that's cool, nobody seems to make colour decks anymore. I like the fleet shop environment as usually you are working on the same brands of cars and you can get your colours in order and you can just get on with painting.
