Larry is a fuckin whole nother level of strength
@ralphmerlin18562 жыл бұрын
Mike is strong, but his hand position on the bar is verging on a close-grip tricep movement, so he'll always fatigue on higher rep sets sooner than he should.

Larry at some point you have to see there is a commonality with guys training with you and almost/injuring themselves. 🤔 I think its because they push themselves so far to keep up with you.

20 years ago when I was a freshman in high school I couldn’t catch 225 fast enough from dropping on my training partners chest that I was spotting for..since then I keep my hands with the bar no matter what..one under one over. I felt horrible after my incident I can imagine how Larry feels I also thought my training partner was strong enough but poo happens….don’t forget to stay strong💯💪
@saassoossoossaas78692 жыл бұрын
Sorry but that has nothing to do with strength, he obviously just lost grip and by the time someone accidentally drops the way like this it is almost impossible to catch it even if you have your hands close to the bar
@larrytate16572 жыл бұрын
Yeah you gotta be under there, don’t have to touch but you gotta be under there when you see them slowing down

The fact that they can bench so much that it can kill them is in itself amazing.

Had this happen to me with 60k once due to a stupid ninja warrior style spinning bar when warming up (idk why gyms think those are a good idea...). Anyway, no breaks, but it fucked my shit up for weeks... Didn't feel it at first. He'll prob feel this for weeks after, or he's just made of steel and got off scot free.

You Know the whole Point of Spotting someone, especially when they're pushing to their limits, is to PREVENT an injury by keeping your hands wrapped around the bar so the SPOTTER can take the load immediately if this shit happens! Im 51 yrs old and was lifting weights for size and Stength for 20 fucking years as a Soldier with all my mates and Never have experienced that kind of bench drop thanks to Good Solid Spotting! Furthermore if you Need those Straps and what not and the Belt to Bench then you're lifting More than Your body is capable of. Hence injuries. Bloody men these days are so fucking impatient, hence all the steroids and the straps and wraps etc etc.
@benextinction__1442 жыл бұрын
Issue here was he hit the right side of the rack when pressing which pushed the bar out of his hands. I dont think even Larry can front raise 180kg. Thats too much weight too far in front of him, that'd just be instant injury or pull Larry down on top of the presser too, or swing the bar towards the presser'shead as the spotter tries to control the weight by bringing it closer to their body - worsening things. It was a bit of a freak accident to hit the rack like that. Hands-on-bar spotting works when the presser is still holding the bar and pushing, but just doesn't have the power to get it up by themself.
@benextinction__1442 жыл бұрын
Also the straps and wraps are to prevent injury. The body is capable of the weight but the joints are at greater risk of injury.
@kevinb57172 жыл бұрын
Very close call. I'm sure alot of adrenaline was in his system but he may feel it later. Very cool to hit two pr's in one day. With guidance from you Larry, I'm sure he will make insane gains.

I slowed it down and it's clear his wrists just snapped forward. Do wrist wraps prevent this? He wasn't even suicide grip... I wanna know what really happened exactly so I can make sure I never have this happen. That was rough to watch.
@c.t.18932 жыл бұрын
Honestly man, I'm not trying to tell you what to do obviously, but I just wouldn't bench. It doesn't really do all that much in my opinion, and it's risky. Even with good form, anything can happen. But, if you set safety bars up correctly you should be able to avoid something like this.
@TateAnakov2 жыл бұрын
I suppose being able to bench 405 12 times allows you to have the ability to shrug off one "drop" set...

I always enjoy Larry’s channel, But man that bench spotting was very lackluster & definitely not safety oriented! It’s a miracle the bar didn’t fall on his neck.
