Absolutely flawless Shuto Uke techniques and variations with circular applications of Shuto Mawashi uke. By far the best video on Shuto Uke.

Shuto uke is Such a natural movement if it`s done like this. And do it like Sensei here explain. For me it`s also a perfect drill for musclememory training, and make noe mistake this is very effective

Excellent drills, I agree! Although not mentioned, this is also an amazing drill in Goju-ryu for the kata Seipai (almost the exact same sequence).

Yes and not only for strikes, as we can see at some moment, we can use it to practice a bunch of other counters that involves grappling too. 💪 It opens your possibilities

I really like Iain's drills which are much better than the traditional thing. If we have to believe Nakayama, shuto uke is a block to a punch, done moving 45 degrees backwards or even stepping to a retreating opponent. I would simply learn Iain's drills and drop the katas. Why putting in my muscular memory anything completely different from the real thing? Shotokan had educational purposes in Nakayama's mind and it had to be spread to a big audience. It was made to educate young people and it's great for that but then you want to switch to something more modern and less robotic. The Dynamic Techniques of SHOTOKAN KARATE - 01
