I don't know jion kata but i do know Nihanshi Kata and I can see so much here in jion bunkai that is also applicable to Nihanshi Kata 👍 Thankyou for sharing this 👍

Was hoping to see the part that jion, jitte, and jiin all have in common where you move forward in shiko dachi and strike (shito strikes low in the first set then high in the second, wado strikes high in both cases). There is that series of moves in the middle too.

How do you create bunkai? Do you just experiment till you find something that works?

I know this is kinda old, but please Sensei Iain, I would love to know your interpretation of the 3 Teisho moves done in sequence in Kiba Dachi in Shotokan. To me it's not so difficult to imagine the Otoshi Tetsui being delivered to the back of the head, but the Teisho moves are troubling me.

That is so sweet Iain, I started working on bunkai for this kata a while ago and my thoughts lead me to believe that it was part of a set of 3 Jion, Jitte and Jin the last one being so short in solo form that it must be a master class of the other 2 with the extra's being shown?

How would the kata answer a shot in the disarming situation? I'm not sure if anyone would try to grab your collar in that situation. Rather fire off a shot, no? Not trying to be a dick or a wise ass, just genuinely curious because, I think the chances of someone trying to hit me when they get that arm free are higher than them just grabbing my collar.

Not 100% sure I understand the question, but I think you may be confused by my making reference to a similar method easier in the kata? My partner goes to that grip because I want to compare the two methods. The kata is also not a very long combination, but series of separate methods presented in a given order. As I say in the text that goes with this video, it’s snippets from a much longer period of instruction and therefore has it’s limits. Those there get the whole process, but those watching may not. The "chapters" that KZbin seems to have added are also not helpful.
