Please pray for me I am suffering from anxiety and depression for over 20 years
@katherinemunarriz12305 жыл бұрын
Me too, more on anxiety. I now practice Stillness in the Lord. By literally removing all anxious and negative thoughts (comparing self with others, fearful anticipation of the future, etc.) I sometimes say Stop to any of these thoughts. And begin to pray three Hail Mary's. To fill the void that will be created by the non-allowance of these negative thoughts in my mind, I fill my mind now with positive thoughts, through prayer and meditations of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, and through spiritual reading. I recommend Progress through Mental Prayer by Leen. Slowly, gradually, you will see God more and more, and your self less and less. The Word is powerful indeed and He will surround you with peace and comfort. May God bless your journey towards Him!

Lord Jesus, bless Jan with Your love and peace. Please infuse in her the knowledge and truth that we are created for joy. Let her drink deeply from the fountain of your hope and joy so as to dispell any spirit of depression or despair. Release her and all who experience depression so that they can soar freely to you and begin anew to love you more deeply in the service of others. Amen

Recommended book on the subject of mental prayer: The Ways of Mental Prater, by Vital Lehodey. It teaches with high level of detail all the dos and don'ts of mental prayer, from basic meditation up to transforming union. It is a book for religious, but all of us should read it because very few are those who know how to pray. I particularly didn't even knew mental prayer was more important than vocal prayer. Those who say "prayer is important but prayer without action is useless" don't know that is through prayer that the faithful puts his/her will in order to act and in the right direction with the indispensable grace od God. So starting to prayer always comes first.

It's challenging for everyone. But this video nicely covers most of the basics AND the reasons why. Also, if it helps, sometimes I just try to picture myself in God's presence (I use mental images, like the Face of Christ, for instance, or the Sacred Heart, or the Eucharist) and then I try to form the intention to lift my soul to God. Obviously these things are only possible through God's help. And if I find myself trying to pray and get distracted I can say, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening." It might seem silly, but just having that to say is a way to reinforce my will to pray. I'll keep you in prayer as you continue to push through.

I usually try to do meditation in the mornings on my commute to work. It's at least a 45-minute commute but I start with an act of contrition then faith hope and charity then just kind of tell God in my mind how much I'm thankful for in my life and petitions. I know this probably isn't the most effective method of mental prayer due to distractions while driving but the time is flying recently. I'll pray the rosary with my family when I get home and pray other devotional prayers throughout the day. Is this a decent start? I really don't have another time during the day. I try to make time but distractions are inevitable and the hours are flying by especially when 8-10 hours are spent at work
