I've done that to mine already, if you use acetone, the old glue comes out easily, no scratching required! Also, I needed to do this a few times as well. Make sure those contacts are ultra clean and dry, otherwise you`ll also have some dark pixels afterwards. When I finished, the display worked 100%.

Just for reference - to get the head unit out - it's actually a T8 torx screwdriver you need, not a T10 👌

E46 BMW’s are a love hate relationship. Things like this annoy you but the way they drive, counters that emotion. Keep these videos coming and I think you need to chg out the CCV - just because 😂
@PracticalEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
That's so true! BMWs definitely keep their owners "involved" whether they like it or not :) . The CCV is coming up soon!

@@PracticalEnthusiast but I will say, when I owned a 325CiC, the online knowledge in the bmw forums was second to none. There is so much good information out there. Everything is documented, including turning a 318 into an M3 :)

@@petemo94 I've noticed that as well. There are few car communities as dedicated as BMW fans.

I think if you took a soldering iron, gently refreshed the board contact points with a bit of solder, then pass a wick solder remover over the points with the soldering iron, enough to cover the points with fresh paper thin solder, and try again, it might work. Check the screen, see if any of the barely visible contact points have been completely wiped off.

Just found your channel; now, I have to go back and watch them all. Mine's a 2002 525 .I have the trifecta of lights but my scanner isn't good enough to tell me if it's the module or the wheel sensor and the shops here in NorCal want outrageous money to plug in theirs and determine which. That heat shield looks pretty well done. Shockingly, my cup holders are not broken; probably because I never use them. I also had the bad pixels in the MID, but I just took it out and sent it off and got it fixed for $175, 3 years ago; still looks great. I would not attempt that job myself. Pixels in the gauge cluster are getting pretty bad. Did you have the twisted seat problem too? I do. Maybe that's in an earlier video too.
@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Yep, fixed the seat twist issue in the previous video. The cluster pixel issue fix should be very similar to the MID fix shown here.

Does the same info apply for the lcd on the cluster? I thought my LCD was broken because I couldn't see any traces left.
@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
There were two different clusters on these, one with a large LCD and one with a small one (like mine has). If it has the large LCD, then yes, the same info applies and there are kits out there that can fix it.

Hey, new to the channel and enjoying this project. I'm searchin for a 530i also. Any advice you can share? Thanks and keep the content coming...
@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Other than the points covered in the video series, watch out for excessive oil consumption (typically the rings) and rust in the rocker panels (check near jack points underneath and wheel wells). Make sure the hood closes / opens easily and sits relatively flush. Don't know why, but I've seen a lot that don't, and fixing that is going to take more work than it's worth. Everything else can be repaired with a some elbow grease and a little bit of money like shown in the videos. Good luck!

Why make people pay 9.99 to see the parts list? You could have just put the link to the ribbon but you'd rather be greedy. Terrible way to gain viewers.
@PracticalEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
I made you an insightful video for free, and if you are unable to locate the parts yourself via an internet search, $10 is hardly a steep investment to make to have access to a vetted list of parts to completely refresh your E39. I'm sorry you do not agree nor see value in it. Please move along.
