dude... SO glad I found this video. I just bought an e30 and found mice in the car. And my cluster doesn't work. I immediatly thought mice chewed wires behind the dash. Then I found out bad clusters is normal so that gave me some reassurance. But I was still nervous i would fix the cluster and it wouldn't work. THIS HELPS ME SO MUCH. I'll be able to find out if I need to tear my dash apart and fix chewed wires or just fix the cluster! Thank you!

Thanks for this video and showing you gotta have some skills, patience, and willpower. Was so hoping a new steering wheel was gonna pop out of the soon to be Christmas box in this video. LOL ....This is the "fun" almost every project I end up with forces me into. My current "project" (94' Nissan Hardbody 4WD) so far has been a true test of skills, patience and, perseverance. This is why when people ask me about getting a "project" for themselves tell them to get something that you can actually get parts and information. Otherwise, you must have passion because paying ridiculous fees for factory manuals you can actually read and slugging around every junkyard you can drive to for parts is not for everyone.

Haha I've been asking for a new steering wheel but I don't think Santa is going to deliver this time around. I found a company that will recover it just like original for a little more than $200 - soo...maybe in the future. And you're right, it seems like every project finds its way to a point like this. If you have access to a factory service manual you'll at least have a shot at finding your way back out! I like those old Nissan 4X4s! I had a 1993 4x4 Pathfinder and it was such a good truck.

Do you by any chance know what every pin on the back of thr cluster is for? I read a lot of wiring diagrams and schematics and i just cant figure it out!
@darshanpatel60463 жыл бұрын
I notice you're missing the wire for pin16 on the C2 connector. That wire is part of one of the tests in that Bentley chart. How did you work around that? I just got an e30 3 weeks ago and its missing too many wires on the back of these connectors. Also this is my first project car and channels like yours really help, thank you!

I had a question in regard to episode 18. While you were in there, did you check the little batteries and the solder on the circuit board??? Do you still have the car and are planning on keeping it??

Dude your videos are awesome. So detailed, your actually convincing me not to buy an e30 because I won’t have the patience to fix everything lol. Do you have any idea what you’d be selling your project e30 for? I’m definitely in the market for an e30 in great shape now!
@PracticalEnthusiast5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! These cars can certainly take patience and time, but it can be fun as well. I don't know that I'm ready to sell it, I've not finished it! I know I wouldn't be able to get out of it what I have in it, so I figure I may as well just drive it for a while.

Best channel for e30 projects. I have a 1987 325i convertible and I’m working on replacing the cluster gears, any specific gears i need or just the set from garagistic that you got? Also have some weird custom wiring going from the cluster down to the lower dash knee piece where they were connected to a double switch (is there a way i can send you a picture to show you where they are connected on the cluster?)
@PracticalEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
There are two different gear set types. One for VDO clusters and one for Motometer clusters. Be sure to see which cluster you have before ordering. Send a picture to usedbikereviews@gmail.com and I'll take a look.

I also restored an E30, and ended up doing nearly everything you did here, maybe even more. I am curious to know how much $$$ you have into the car at this point. Do you think you could make it all back when you sell it?

When are more videos of the toyota pickup coming??
@PracticalEnthusiast5 жыл бұрын
I hate to tell you this, but that truck has been sold nearly 8 months now. When I first put that video up there was hardly any interest in it. As of two weeks ago, that video took off and many people want to see more videos of it. Unfortunately, that won't be happening - at least not for that specific truck. I fixed the truck up and sold it on to someone who would take care of it and look after it. I have a first generation 4Runner than I hope to do some features on in the future, so you may see some videos on that. Thanks for watching though!
