The Mazda BT-50 was updated early in 2018 with a new, more muscular looking snout. The mechanicals were left alone and the interior too. So, should you put one on your shopping list?

Now own a BT50, superb Ute. So nice to drive and heaps of grunt with 3.2L engine. Not overpriced like the Ranger.

Yes they are a great ute, I've owned mine close to 3yrs and has been very reliable and extremely capable ute for work and play.

Love my new BT50 XT - it's very quiet and comfortable and fits the whole family. Only downsides - fuel economy should be better and mine, with the only modification being 32' tires, averages 12.5 for mostly country and small town driving. The auto, while great off-road, is very slow to kick down and is more meh meh than zoom zoom.

Great review, very good vehicle on and off road, towing and load hauling . Good all rounder in the ute class.

Thanks Dra, yep, I’m a fan. It might be a little behind in terms of the cabin finish and active safety but in the bush it’s incredibly capable.

Practical Motoring Cheers Will be interesting to see what power plant Isuzu will come up with in the next updated model of the Bt50, hoping on similar power/torque numbers , two manufacturers that haven’t lost sight on what a reliable ute is meant to be.

@@dratempest610 Yeah, I'm looking forward to that...Beyond the engine it'll be interesting to see how Mazda reconciles looks and ride and handling tuning.

Probably not to far off what the current Mazda design and technology that’s being used im thinking, but with the broken constraints that ford had with Mazda over this current partnership, Mazda should be in a far better position wise to really move on the technology front . Will be great to see!

Need to also remember that Ford Ranger was actually owned (80% I believe) by Mazda. So bagging Mazda and praising Ford is a bit funny. When you see the angry front grille of a Ranger, this is because it missed out on being a BT 50.
