Coming back to traditional archery after 3 years of messing around in my house. I found your channel, and I want to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your bow trips, Thank you for your tips and ideas. I also can improve my English skills listen to your vids. I know how it feels when someone is empty and exhausted inside.. After these years it feels great again to get my MOJO back and go out in the woods and have a good time with our 3d parcours. Thank you for that. Looking forward to buy and read your book,it is not ready yet or? In German we say, bleib Wie du bist. Greetings from Germany.

I've taught various musical instruments for 40 years. I've always said, "if you practice something wrong, over and over, you'll get REALLY GOOD at doing it WRONG!"
@johncom19712 жыл бұрын
Being a musician, I can totally relate to your "I don't practice" way of thinking. I'll play my instruments all the time... but I never "practice". Practice seems like work... I play them because I enjoy it. Same thing with my archery - I shoot when I can... because I love it. Love your videos. - Nova Scotia, Canada

I want to see videos of you using your grizzly jim bow to shoot. Practice at targets. Practice at 3d targets. Tell us how you set it up for you specifically. Teach us how to shoot from beginner level to master level skills. When I first saw your video reviewing the sammick sage your skills just totally amazed me. You didn't struggle at aiming. You just shot like you enjoyed it and your skills shined through. Your review of the bow was honest. It was that video that made decide that I want to continue on with the bow, instead of lettting it drop to the way side like other hobbies I've done in the past. More videos of you shooting. More videos of you shooting with friends telling us about your equipment. I'm interested in knowing and I imagine others want to know too.

That is a great video , and a great topic ! I've found that when I shoot my best is when I concentrate and focus on form and try to slow it down some not just sling a 100 arrows as you have stated , there are days when I'm just off and sometimes have to just accept the fact that I'm human . I must say that the more often I shoot the better I become or at least see improvement in my shot placement , the one thing I've learned about traditional archery is that if you don't use it you will definitely lose it for sure, this sport keeps you on your toes , you must stay with it to be consistent , I absolutely love shooting my longbow , thanks for a great video , BTW I think your an awesome archer hope to be 1/2 as good as you some day Lol ! There is a huge rabbit hole of archery that gets either ignored or not known. Archery in my opinion is a few things. 1. Science 2. Art 3. Physics 4. Therapy 5. A great hunting tool. (If done right!) After this it goes deep in the science lol. And there are certain facts that people don’t like hahahah.

Good points. Great to see you again! I like how you stressed the need for archery hunters to be the best that they can. It reminds me of my responsibility to take deer as proficiently as possible. Hope the weather cools down for you guys over there. Thank you for another great video!

Awesome topic jim I answered a question on a trad site a few weeks ago about the same topic an my response was perfect practice makes perfect (well as perfect as we can be) i feel this topic is far more important than most.

The problem is when you work full time it’s dark outside when you get home so you can’t go to the club. I can only shoot everyday when it’s day light savings. 😢

It's not just for archery, it is for everything. Quality is important, quantity means little to nothing. Humans are flawed, and perfection is not possible in most activities. And in my experience once you reach near perfect, it gets boring real fast. No challenge, no room to improve.

Sometimes I go out and shoot for my head and so my form kind of sucks. I try to shoot properly, but when the shooting is for stress relief the form suffers. Sometimes I go out and shoot for exercise (I shoot ambidextrously so I work both sides). Again I go for proper form, but towards the end form suffers because I get tired. Quantity until the quality suffers. Then I rest. Currently I am in the strength building phase, so even crap arrows have some benefits. Good form requires some level of strength in the right muscles I learned that from rock climbing in my youth. So starting out, those crap arrows are important to shoot simply for the strength building aspect of things. Try for good form, but have appreciation for your crap rounds and off days too because you will still get something out of it. As a beginner/returning archer (it's been a few years), this is important for me to keep in mind so I don't beat myself up for not practicing "hard enough"/"the right way" when my form is off or whatever. These are the thoughts you inspired in me with the video. Thinking cool thoughts for you.

I've come to the same conclusions since mid-April, because when I shoot over 125 arrows, and if I shoot badly, the more frustrated I get with myself, (for example, I start plucking for no reason) and the worse I shoot for the rest of the practice... Have a nice day and weekend and take care.

Great video mate. As a martial artist and knife sharpener and archer everything becomes easier the more you practice. Myself am saving up for some better quality heavier arrows now 🙂

How can you practice perfectly if you can't shoot perfect? The only way to get perfect is to practice and learn how to make adjustments based off your mistakes. Then you can start getting better. But once your perfect you dont need practice because then you are a master of your craft and you just perform after that. So that statement never really made since to me. With that being said, I understand the point you're making, as in do everything you can perfectly and in turn you will start becoming perfect. But still just never sat right with me.. 🤷♂️🤦♂️

Many will cringe at this, but I think trad archers should take a long, hard look at Olympic archers and understand their process. I know there are strong feelings between us, even contempt, I see it every day, but ultimately we all strive for the same thing, putting an arrow on a spot far away and they're very good at it (and no, it's not the bells and whistles on the bow). I've found the principles apply to any bowstyle and yes, it's hard work and not always fun. How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

I am one of those 1 hour per week archers. Watched half the video, went out to pull the Grizzly String with 3 arrows in the quiver, did it now 4 days in a row. I halfed the hit radius and enjoyed (nearly) every arrow. :-D Greetings from Austria

Great video Jim. I'm that Tuesday night guy. To be fair I might get 2½ hours... But now I use that time. For a long time during a dip I was just shooting for the sake of shooting. Now, there is more in it. Here in The Netherlands we have a 25 metre one arrow round. 5 practice shots then 25 rounds of one arrow. The down time between your shot can be frustrating, but! Use that to work on your form, on a quiet evening I won't shoot more than three arrows at a time. I used to empty a quiver into a target, but I find after three my focus is less, and by arrow five or six my my routine is really sloppy. What I'm trying to say is, we don't always have a lot of range time, but make the most of what you have, and that might even mean shooting fewer arrows than desired.

Practice make you better muscle memory and instinctive shooting awareness . Everybody body is built different what good for one is not good for other. Some have big hands some small some have a beer belly some dont which changes the mechanics
