In this guitar lesson, Hayes Griffin describes a few ways to use intervals and triads to improve your scale practice. Practicing scales this way will help you master common melodic tools that you can add to your own improvisations, arrangements, and tunes.

Dude the amount of help you do to guitarists is non measurable. Ive been a player for 17 years and I've never even studied theory, Just all by ear and such. It's always been intimidating to me. And the way you teach and i must give some credit to lessons with marcel, have been immensely helpful! Seriously!! Please don't stop doing what you do!

Love that last triad (ascending/descending) exercise. I've worked through the ascending plenty but never thought to alternate ascending/descending. Brilliant! Going to start working on this. Btw, first time viewer, loved your concise and clear explanation. SUBSCRIBED

This is such promising information! Thank you sir. I have played most of my life, but never really practiced scales. Just learned songs. Now I see the need to develop these skills in order to flat pick and eventually improvise on guitar. I will start with the triad exercise as it makes sense to me beyond the usual major scale exercises. I would really like to subscribe to your premium service now, but that would be sort of a wasted expense until I get this requisite bit under control. You mentioned a free tier. I could not locate that. Again, thank you so much for sharing your mastery.

Glad you find this useful George! I think you'll get a long way with this exercise, but don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Also, I did a bit of restructuring to the site. There is no longer a Free tier, but there is a Free Trial for the subscription. Right now it's 30 days free inside the Club, but I will switch that back to 14 days at the end of April. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and hope you get a lot out of this drill!

Uh… if I was a new improviser I would find this confusing and confounding. Trust your ear… triads are helpful. You bluegrass folks want to get fast before you get tasty. Slow and delicious rather than fast and bland. Take some time.
