Sir, I have a doubt, how the actions pertaining to any specific card is being decided? Like a vessel can be seen anywhere with respect to our own vessel and hence how are you interpreting your actions and justifying according to the cards?

Is it right? NUC vessel making way from stern should see the stern light. May be its NUC from ahead!

Just a general doubt for AMSA orals. What actions to take, if we are a PDV and see NUC, RAM or SV on Port side crossing?

avoid alter to PORT, depending on risk of collision alter to stbd and or reduce speed.

@@abishaisatheesh9858 Why avoid alteration to port?? we just have to keep out of the way according to Rule 18, right? or is it because of the good seamanship that we dont alter course to port?
@Patrickjk

@Mackey Rule 17 (c) is for a stand on vessel to take avoiding action in case the give way vessel does not take proper action. In the above situation, Rule 18(a) applies. we are PDV (give way vsl) and the other is NUC/RAM/SV/FV (stand on). rule 18 (a) says we have to give way to NUC/RAM/SV/FV and they have to stand on. Therefore, as per Rule 16, we have to take early and substantial action to give way. Rule 16 does not specify what action to take, only to keep out of the way. Since the RAM/NUC/SV/FV has to keep her course and speed as a stand on vessel (Rule 17a.2), we can safely alter to port in the above case, which is more efficient.
