Don't forget the most underrated permutation of all, that is to play no notes at all ❤

Thanks for making that so simple. I've heard about permutations several times now (I've only been drumming for a few months) and really have no idea what things I will need to "practice forever". This will be a good one to put into my practice routine

I've never know the word for this. I've always just thought of it as an ostinato with whichever limb is developing that interdependence soloing. Like in Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, you do this with a swing ride pattern. Been hearing too much about Benny Greb recently, might have to go and buy his book and dvd 😅

I practice "forever exercises" 1&2 regularly and the confidence it instills really allows me to enjoy what I'm playing with other musicians. I was missing a couple of the permutations in #2 so thank you for filling in the blanks for me. I personally think of these "forever exercises" in terms of building a "tool box" that I can apply at will in the moment. This is a great way of building vocabulary and also excellent for training the ears to identify more complex passages I might be trying to learn to play. Nicely done!

Another great video, Cole. These sort of linear/subtractive/additive types of exercises go a long way. They are also wonderfully meditative. Keep up the good work!

Agree that this one is great. I’ve used this too, to gain independence and freedom in playing. When you can do this well on 4 limbs some magic starts to happen.

Im going through all of these and learning them for left foot too. I play open handed so Im learning to play them all with both my left and right on the 8th notes! Will definitely keep me busy for a while!!

The last one is playing nothing, which the Groovescribe doesn't display.
