The lick itself is great as well, but I'm much more impressed by the unplugged sound that is caught on the cam and how each note is so freaking clearly articulated

Cool to hear you say this because i found that i pretty much have the same idea of how to practice and build up speed, but i have never really analyzed what i actually think about while doing that.. :P And also i looked up planting technique and when i think of it, that's one very useful thing i use alot in practicing picking between strings and sweep picking.

maybe this is staccato technique. when you hit the string, you mute it immediately with (by) your pick. my teacher Sergey Golovin told me that, and it helped alot

Sava Tsurkanu he talks about it in other videos, but its getting your pick ready resting on the next string you're going to play as soon as you can.

Chris Kalas yep, maybe my approach is only for an alternate picking, not for economy. i'll try it, thanks :) but usually I don't think about that, bcs I practice in a different way, in russian books for classical guitar this method calls "dotted line method". maybe it means something to you. it's like a swingin' a whole sequence at first starting on the long note and then starting at the short note. dotted 8th and 16th pairs and then 16th and dotted 8th. PS: I reeeeeeally hope u understood me :D

Economy picking is so difficult to grasp for me. The temptation is to do a steady, rhythmic cadence of alternate picking, so to interrupt that down-up-down-up pattern with two downs or two ups in a row kind of throws me off.

6672rock you could try practicing it on arpeggios. It feels more natural there imo. Preferably 7th arpeggios, since they will have more strings with 2 notes on them, and it will feel less like a sweep and more like normal picking - especially if you avoid hammer ons and pull offs. If you like how it feels/sounds then you can keep working to translate that to everything else. Personally, I still prefer alternate picking for most other situations.
