Of course everyone knows what you should do with the space where Finn's bed is except you! I have found when I don't know what to do with a space I just leave it alone and one day out of the blue, it just hits me and I wonder why I didn't think of that before. I do agree with you that the chair belongs on the rug. One commenter mentioned putting a mirror on that wall and I think that is a wonderful idea. It will reflect your room and look very nice. Mirrors are my go to when I don't know what to do and it's amazing how they can make a space look warm and cozy in how they reflect the room. And just leave Finn's bed where it is. We do live in our houses and everything can't be perfect nor should it be.

Wonderful video! Homemade bread is like dessert for me, so delicious! I just love your home and always have. You are so encouraging by not being afraid to try something new. And, Evie is amazing! What a lovely young woman she is becoming. A suggestion for your blank wall would be a lovely hanging plant. This wouldn't interfere with Finn's bed and there's no furniture involved. Macrame hanging baskets are back in style and are just beautiful. Love that you are always doing something for others. Taking a homemade meal to someone in need is hospitality at it's best. Love you, Hilary!💗

I own 2 of those bread machines. 😂. I always use bread flour in the machine and bread machine yeast. Most of the time I use the dough making feature. I then shape and rise the dough and make bread in oven. Almost every time I make in the bread in the bread maker, usually in summer when I don’t want house to get hotter from oven, it falls at the end. But like you found, it tastes good. Now I will feel better: it is the bread maker and not something I do that makes it fall. 😂

I have found adding powdered milk makes bread dough have a smoother texture. I've used it in my bread machine and making bread in my stand mixer and the results are wonderful. I use 3 rounded tablespoons per loaf Store bought bread has dough conditioners in it and, of course, preservatives, that make it have a soft crust. Some ideas for your blank wall....since you have an outlet there you could put a hanging light, adjusting the height to whatever you want. Another idea is art that you can change out according to the seasons. You could also find or have made a very large frame and hang framed pictures (family pics?) inside of it. I like that dress on you, very pretty. Have a lovely day 😀❄☃💗

*Didn’t you have a chair where Finns bed is once?* I think you should put the chair back there again.. it will both help open up the living room while keeping it close enough to be considered conversational, and will fill the space without feeling cluttered. Adding a very small round table on the side of the chair will ground the chair in the space and provide a place to set a mug and cozy book ☕️📚❤

Hi Hilary, It's Mary. I usually comment from my Husbands account. I now have my own 😅 You know when my kids were little I got a sitter a couple of times a week. I got so much slack for that because I was "home" It was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made for myself AND for my family. I was able to show up more present AND calm. I know it's something that is not available for everyone. However, a blessing if you can ❤

As a first time mom to 1 little boy we just recently hired a babysitter for Mondays and it has seriously transformed my weeks. Especially as we don't have family that lives close there was never a break. And you're right, having the time definitely helps set me up for the week and allows me to show up better for him the rest of the week. ❤

There is something so satisfying about making your own bread. I too have started experimenting with sandwich bread. I got a Pullman pan for Christmas. It has a lid so the bread comes out flat on all four sides and also with very minimal crust which for little kiddos who don’t eat their crusts is a plus. My kids are grown though so not a consideration here 😉. My first loaf came out so well and was gone in a flash 😂. Your French press is lovely. I have been using one for several years. I love the ritual of it. It makes preparing breakfast a little more special. Thanks for sharing Hilary. Have a lovely day 😊.

As I am a very visual person... the white chair needs to be where the dog bed is with the brass floor lamp next to it.... maybe a floor magazine basket next to the chair. It makes the room look so cramped and small with it on the carpet. Just a suggestion, since you mentioned it. Also a nice large wall basket or metal pocket, where you could change the foliage seasonally.

You could thrift a wooden tv cabinet that could be painted wall color or stain it to match mantel wood. Have your talented husband turn it into a sewing center. Use existing or create side shelves for folded materials. On other side where tv once was housed, make a 3- boards hinged fold out table with a fold down "leg" or thin cabinet that becomes the support to table for sewing. When it is folded back into cabinet, set your portable sewing machine there for storage. If the cabinet was same hieght of mantel, it would not be overpowering or feel like a cramped corner.

Years ago I bought these long bread pans off Amazon, they make your loaves the same size as store bought bread. I got a honey whole wheat recipe from a book. I have a Bosch which is just a heavy duty mixer. The recipe makes 6 regular size loaves (so I can make 2 of the long ones and 2 regular ones). But the key to having it soft is to make something called Dough Enhancer. It’s just Lecithin and some Vit C granules (can get at Natural Grocers I’d think). And you only add like a 1/2 tsp of each to the big recipe and also some vital wheat gluten. Probably more info than you’d like but here is that recipe. Honey Whole Wheat Bread ★★★★★ Breads Servings: 96 Ingredients: 6 1/2 cups warm water (95-115 degrees) 3 tablespoon yeast 1 1/2 tsp vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid) (I got this at GNC store) 1 1/2 tsp lecithin (I also got this at GNC store) 1 cup oil 1 cup honey (tip: I add oil first to 2 cup glass measuring cup..then add honey and it slides right out) 2 T salt 1 cup vital gluten 11-15 cups 100% whole wheat flour Directions: From Miserly Meals book. Honey Whole Wheat Bread Serves 96 (6 loaves) Preparation Time: 1-2 hours Cooking Time: 30 minutes "I find it easier to bake several loaves of bread at once and freeze them. Here is my favorite recipe." In a very large mixing bowl (I used my Bosch), combine the first 7 ingredients. Mix well. Let the mix rest for 5 minutes. Add the gluten and mix well. With the mixer running, slowly add the flour to the dough, one cup at a time. Once the dough begins to pull cleanly away from the sides of the bowl, you have added enough. Adding too much flour will make the bread crumbly. You may use more or less than the 11 cups, depending on the flour, air temperature, etc. If you have a kneading function on your mixer, turn it on for 6-15 minutes, watching for an elastic consistency. If not, knead on a floured board for 20 minutes. Form into 6 loaves and place in greased loaf pans. Cover and put in a warm area until doubled in size (20-40 minutes). Remove the upper oven racks and place pans on the lowest level. Bake at 325 for 30 minutes. Cost per serving (1 slice): 6 cents Cost per loaf: 96 cents Kitchen Tip: If you need to INTERRUPT YOUR BREAD RISING, place the dough in the refrigerator. This slows the rising down as well as allows better flavor and texture. Where Finn's bed is, I wouldn't put anything on the floor bc his pad is there, but I'd put some prints on the wall. You used to have those horse prints there, or make a gallery wall, etc. That would fix the blank wall issue, and also not add clutter to the floor. I love the idea of doing a monthly family excursion! I'm one who fails to plan ahead, and consequently I end up not doing anything. Enjoy your outings!

Julie, I just recently started eating avocados...the trick is to make sure they are ripe, a bit soft to the touch - not rock hard. I slice mine, remove the pit and in sections, I peel off the skin. In my opinion, it's best with a very small sprinkle of salt, pepper and either oregano or Italian Seasoning. You can eat it sections with eggs, mash and put on toast (Avocado Toast) or add to salads, mexican food, etc. It is a superfood to me anyway and once you season it, it's really quite good just sliced up! My big issue is getting them ripe, but not too overipe (mushy). Enjoy! Paige Rose

Just put a mirror on the blank wall in the living room. It will enlarge he room, reflect the light and take up no room.

When our children were little we scheduled a monthly activity/outing. We let each person pick including the parents & set a dollar limit. It could be something that cost nothing or something more expensive. It’s a great way to spend time with your family and make memories plus teach the children about money. We really enjoyed doing it.

How about a mirror on that wall with an oval shaped gold frame on one side? You could try a smaller mirror or a full length mirror?

Maybe a long mirror or a shelf with a plant and some small picture frames

On your blank wall put a tall mirror! No clutter and it would make the space look bigger by reflecting the light from your windows. 😊

I’ve definitely considered that! But then we have the mirror over the entry dresser and I wonder if it’s too much? Ahh 😅

Second option...a small square wood table and a mini wood cabinet with closed door could work as a " sewing center" cabinet in the corner by fireplace...while still keep dog bed beneath when not sewing.

Hi Hillary… I was just wondering why you do not put all your ingredients in the bread machine and have it do all of the work? Also I just wanted to suggest looking into a Pullman bread pan. I got mine off of Amazon and it does do a better job of making a true loaf shape for sandwiches.

With the sourdough I basically knead it in the machine and then bake in the morning. I’ve done plenty of recipes with the raw ingredients that have also turned out well!

How do you fix avocado? I need to eat it for the health of my pancreas but I don’t like them. Do you just peel and eat? 🤮. Lol. I wish I liked them.

If you pop it into your blender, along with your smoothie, it will thicken the smoothie, but you will not taste it; I do this all the time in my Protein Breakfast Smoothie! You can also peel, pit, cut in half...then freeze each half in a small baggie...then do above...makes your smoothie thick and cold!

It’s not sourdough, but still better than store bought and is my go-to when we need sandwich bread quickly: in 2 cups of warm (I use tap) water, dissolve 2 Tbsp. yeast, and 2 Tbsp. sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or until bubbly. Mix in 2 Tbsp. oil (I use olive), 2 tsp. salt, and 5 cups flour (you can sub out 1 1/2 cups of the white flour for whole-wheat, but any more than that and it can get too crumbly). Knead until smooth and elastic, cover and let rise until doubled. Punch down, and divide in half. Roll dough out into a rectangle and then roll up at from the short end, tucking ends under. Place each loaf onto a cookie sheet (I line mine with parchment paper), slash and allow to rise until 1 1/2 to 2 times its size, or about 40 minutes to an hour. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes. Cool on a rack.

I know you've tried multiple bread recipes, but may I suggest checking out Jessica from Roots & Refuges on her new food channel. I had not been making bread but have long wanted to do this. I've made her recipe & doing it the same way she shows & my bread is fabulous....if I i say so myself! 😊 I've made it 4 or 5 times. It makes 2 loaves (not in a bread machine). I have a small family, so I freeze one. The link to her video & her link to the recipe is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKq3Y6Ool7WHg7Msi=63kyto0m-Mv-8_Wx
