I struggled with the basic slow speed maneuvers until I dedicated more time to the slow ride. That forced me to use the rear brake to control my speed. Once I became more comfortable going slow, I could do the weaves, 360 and U turns. I am still working on the turns from a stop. Thanks for all the good advice.

I rode dirt bikes for years as a kid, never had any issues. I’ve been off a motorcycle for about 10 years and decided it was time to get back on it. Recently bought a Sportster 1200 because I really wanted a Harley but not quite ready for a 900 pound bagger. Immediately the slow speed balance issue showed up and I felt like I was constantly trying to hold up all 500 pounds. This video just showed me exactly how to handle the bike at slow speeds. I’ll definitely be watching more. Thank you!

Thank you sir. As with all skilled physical activities, the simplest fundamentals is what most easily escapes us. Just like in baseball, football, hockey, or any other sport, we get good and we ignore the basic fundamentals. We rely solely on our extreme skills. Like not running out a ground ball at full speed, or hitting the cutoff man, we become to good for our own good. I know I’m guilty of it. I’ve been working hard on becoming a better rider, and these fundamental skills you’re sharing make us far more solid than the average Joe. If we practice! So thank you, and keep it coming. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this comment. I turn 65 this year and was considering downsizing to a smaller bike for 2-reasons: 1) I took a spill on my 2006 Vulcan 1600 about 1.5 years ago. After that spill I really began practicing this training and my confidence grew as I began making u-turns in a movie theatre’s parking lot; 2) A smaller bike (IMHO) would personally help me feel safer (less weight to manage) while learning these techniques. So, thanks…hearing that you still feel confident about riding at age 70 is a vitamin for me. Peace.

What we do is when we do the stop/start exercise, every other cone there are 2 cones (o e on each side). When your front tires gets to those cones you come to a stop and you DON'T put your foot down. Left foot only comes down when you get to the single cones. Enjoy

Like everyone else has said - another great video! You have a knack for explaining these various riding skills to their fullest. Most of us learn these skills to around 75%, but there's always something missing. Some inconsistency. You always explain the matter to a complete 100%. Thank you again.

Thanks Robert, I’ve been doing both types of starts/stop exercises and I can definitely feel the huge control difference while in the friction zone. 👍🏼.

This I feel is a very important task to conjure. I am practicing this everyday now. I don't care if I am riding two up or not, I'm working on it! I than you for this too Robert. I've been subscribed to Ride Like a Pro now for about five years. Watching his videos were/are cool, but it never sunk in that I could do it to till I came across you Robert! You show that you actually give a shit about us. You genuinely care, I can tell. I thank you. But back to this video, this exercise is extremely important. At least for me it is.
Man I love this channel, I turn everyone I can on to it . New riders especially. One of my friends son in law just got his 1st bike. I'm closest to his age in the group we hang with. He was stoked about getting his bike, but nervous to ride it . I showed him your videos, I can't wait to see if he actually watches you. As he watched your intro to slow riding basics, he said " I hope I can ride that good" I told him,"I've been riding motorcycles for 20 + years and I learn something every time I watch. " God bless you brother, may you be blessed on your ride, every ride 🙏. Keep teaching, until next time, I'll preload it & keep it loaded, you do the same.
