Retired Navy man here (1999). Had to take a 3 day motorcycle safety class (1984) to get a base sticker so I could use the bike to get to work on base. The San Diego motor officer (Luke Lucarelli) had 25 years on the force. His training is the reason I have not had an accident in over 41 years of riding. I have never stopped park lot training but after moving to Michigan in 2017 from the West coast, I have experienced the "degraded skills" effect from storing the bike during winter. You are are wonderful resource for old, new and rusty guys. You instruction style is outstanding firm, outlining the fundamentals, demonstrations. I am grateful for you and your public service to the cycle community. Even after retirement. You are affecting life's today and I assure you affecting life's 41 years down the road =+). Please, consider doing some "fireside" chats on defense tactics in city traffic. Luke had a pile of VCR tapes (yeah, I know don't say it) with accidents. And told us if you need that kind of thing to scare you then you can watch them on your own. But his life's stories of 25 years on the force, his close calls, his 6 crashes take came very close to killing him and what they taught him. These are the things that mental have stayed with me, along with the expert riding instructions that I now see in your work. Carry on,sir And again Thank you It has gotten more and more difficult to get quality instruction from experienced (LEO) individuals, amongst the the cluster (unqualified) noise of the internet. Thank again Rick Fairall, USN retired.

Perfect close-up demonstration of your hand movement on the clutch! I always practice the slow ride while approaching a red light. Most of the time, I don't even have to stop before it changes to green. I LOVE all your videos and have learned so much as a new rider who started at age 62.

Also a great technique when stopped behind a vehicle at a light. I angle my bike to the left or right in case the car coming up behind me doesn't stop short enough to avoid hitting me. Great way to give yourself the extra space.

I just want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have had my motorcycle license for about 2 years and last month I upgraded to a 2008 vtx1300 from my first honda cm250 and shortly after found your channel. I was really anxious with the large size of the new bike, but after watching your videos and implementing your preloading technique with clutch control, I have seen such an incredible improvement in my slow speed riding. You're the only instructor on youtube that helped me improve in such a short amount of time. I feel so much more confident in my riding after only a few practice sessions. Thank you so much.

You know what you should pitch to HD engineering... this concept... a 3 stage clutch... open, closed, and slow speed lock... almost like a Throttle Boss... or design it... I'm in for 3% of profit... ... this could actually be a aftermarket product... "Clutch Boss" locks release but allows full pull when in use..

Unfortunately the area we play in the friction zone can’t be a thing that we set. We have to always be in control of it because there are many small variations of movements that we have to make.

Hey Robert. I could use some advice. I've been watching your videos because I've been wanting to learn to ride so that I can buy a bike. I took the MSF BRC course this weekend. Passed the written part. Today was the first day of the practical riding exercises. I was let go by the instructor because he said that I couldn't balance the bike very well. I was really shocked. I thought I was doing okay, guess not. So, I am what you'd call a "late bloomer" I'm 59 and want to ride. I was really discouraged by this. The bike was a HD 500 and it was really small for me, and getting my feet up on the pegs was kind of hard, so every time I'd try the bike would start to wobble like I couldn't balance the bike. So, he sent me home. I could use some advice Robert. Don't give up and try again, or keep trying?? I'm not sure what to do.

I've watched these videos over and over. I get the concept and I practice it, but it's still hard to get my mind to override my instincts. I have the most difficulty in really slow hard turns, especially hard turns from a stop. Most of the time I don't have any problems. I'm not afraid to lean my bike to the point of scraping my floorboards, but it is a heavy, 2011 Road King. I can't seem to get to that point where it's second nature to keep the throttle up and use the clutch to control my power, even though I know that's what I need to do. I can't seem to "GET IT" or "PERFECT IT."
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle

Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my KZbin channel!👍🏾😊 kzbin.info Don’t get frustrated. Overcoming your instincts isn’t easy at all. You know what you’re supposed to be doing. That’s the first hurdle overcome. The rest will follow. If you haven’t done so already, practice Exercise #3 Trust & Believe!©️ And don’t use that 5 letter word anymore (HEAVY). It will stick in your head and distract you. The weight of your motorcycle is irrelevant when proper techniques are used. It will come.

Great video as always, Robert. Question: so when coming to smooth stops, you’re in the friction zone with the clutch, apply pressure to rear brake, and you pop it in neutral when you’re basically stopped completely? I assume when coming to a stoplight on the street, you don’t downshift all the way to 1st gear or do you?

Should the clutch be covered by 4 fingers or 2 fingers? Does it even matter if you understand where the friction zone is on your bike? When I started riding decades ago I have always used 2 fingers but I see you using your entire hand and quite frankly your level of riding is the top .01% of all riders so your opinion matters more than almost any one.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my KZbin channel!👍🏾😊 kzbin.info It really depends on several factors. Sometimes I have four fingers on the clutch and sometimes I have three. It depends on what I’m doing. It also depends on the size of a person’s hand, how stiff the clutch lever is, etc.

Hi Robert I have a question that I can’t find the answer too for the life of me lol. Do you know what that song is called on your videos that says let’s have a toast to the real? I looked last summer with no luck so I thought I would finally ask you lol. Take care and be safe buddy

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle Awesome thank you for the information and keep the videos coming buddy. I really enjoy watching them and I like how you came up with a way to do things a certain way from asking everyone’s name and skill level to your camera work, its pretty incredible buddy

Unbelievable! Your title above in capital letters, highlighted in red, says "BREAKING"??? Really? Personally, I called it braking.
