I did not know that 'de l' ' was applicable to both gender nouns if they start with a vowel or 'h' . I'm always pleased when I understand and learn a new rule!

It's a little difficult to explain so I'm gonna try to be the clearest possible. If you add a notion of quantity as "500 grammes" or "un peu" and so on, it takes over the word "fruits". And in that case the partitive article will be "DE". Ex : I need plums : J'ai besoin DE prunes. I need to get 250 grammes of kiwis : J'ai besoin de 250 grammes DE kiwis. I will buy some bananas : Je vais acheter DES bananes. You can say "Prends 500 grammes DES fruits secs", but in that case it will mean "Grab 500 grammes from THESE dry fruits." but it's quite rare.

Omg this is so confusing when it's in the negative but I will practice, practice and practice! Great work! Your knowledge in English is invaluable!

Just remember its always gonna be “de" if its negative! de or d’ when the next word starts with a vowel. Just look at the whole sentence see if there is any negative like pas or jamais and immediately think of “de”. Good luck!
