As others have said..this is French. He actually has sung in about 15 languages, including English. One of his most incredible is in Japanese and he has many, many beautiful ones in Chinese. Some are songs he has composed.. El Amor En Ti in Spanish, War and Peace in Chinese and the list goes on. (He has 2 undergraduate music degrees, in Classical and jazz/pop, a Masters Degree in music composition, and is short only defending his thesis for his doctorate.) Singing in all those languages allows him to try to reach the world, bringing people from 60 to 90 countries together in love and harmony which is one of his biggest goals. In every concert he leads the audience in a chant in Kazakh, asking for unity in the world.

The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). This is my first introduction to Dimash. I saw this song, when he was on the “Singer” contest in China. He did not win, because at the time, a foreigner could not win. However, Dimash became a Chinese superstar, and national treasure. He had to have bodyguards after that performance. I think he was 22 years old. You must see some of these performances from 2017. Dimash has been back to China multiple times, as a guest, a judge. China, other Asian countries, and Europe has embraced Dimash,the U.S. and South America has many DEARS, who wish he would tour this continent more. Dimash is an independent artist, who does not want to sell his soul to corporate music. That is why he maintains his musical integrity, and brings us beautifully ICONIC and MEANINGFUL art. Dimash just sang S.O.S in France, before the French President, as well as the Kazakh President, and other dignitaries. He did a magnificent job! Dimash was initially drawn to this song as a result of its performance by Gregory Lemarchal on a French talent/reality show in the early 2000's. Gregory had Cystic Fibrosis and was expected to sing, act and dance as a part of the competition. In spite of having only 25 percent of his lung capacity, Gregory won the show but shortly thereafter died in the hospital at the age of 23 while awaiting a lung transplant. Every man, woman and child in France knows Gregory's story and the lyrics, "Why do I live, why do I die," from this song which he sang on more than one occasion. Over the years it has come to mean even more to Dimash since his best friend, 25-year-old champion Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten was murdered attempting to keep thugs from stealing items off his car. And then, shortly thereafter, Dimash's music teacher and mentor died of Covid and Dimash's cherished grandfather who helped raise him also passed away. So much tragedy associated with such a beautiful song. Dimash clearly feels the emotion every time he sings it.

One of my favorites, so many masterpieces to choose from, is Ikanaide in Japanese for the 21 Jazz festival during Covid. When he was 22 he was invited to sing in a Chinese competition 2017, he became a superstar in China overnight, you can watch the other contestants reacting backstage, very enlightening watching this series.

The song comes from the 1978 French Canadian rock opera Starmania. Briefly the plot is about a futuristic globalized world where entertainment rules. The main character is the leader of an underground movement who in this song wonders whether he is on the right track. Dimash also performs the Chinese version of Ikanaide, called Autumn Strong & there are wonderful videos of him singing live, including the first time he performed it on The Singer show in China 2017. When I went to his concert in Antalya, Turkey, he asked the audience which version of this beautiful song they wanted & then did the first part in Chinese & the second part in Japanese! He takes you to another world with his songs. ❤ In the future, when you react to him your best bet on guessing the language is one of these: Kazakh, Russian, Chinese, English, Italian and French. His most requested songs are in these languages. Since many European languages are all more or less related, the words should sound somewhat familiar. If you try to ignore the accent, many French words are very similar to Spanish. And English has a massive amount of french words in its vocabulary. This one wasn’t written for Dimash or by him, but he picked it up and gave it his wings! The lights, graphics (wings), passion, and everything about this is top notch!! I love the part where the lightening is flashing on the screen behind him and he made it look like it hit him. I quite literally have never seen or heard anyone like Dimash. He will never stop amazing me, even on songs i see and hear over and over. I see others have given you more info on this song, but I just want to add that many have sung it, but Dimash has definitely made it his own with his fabulous vocals & the feeling he gives to it. This is the song that catapulted him by going viral overnight when he first performed it on The Singer competition in China in 2017. I could see the joy on your face watching & listening to this one. I would like to suggest a Japanese song, Ikanaide, which is another phenomenal performance for Tokyo Jazz Festival 2021. It was filmed with him in his studio & I think you will love it. Dimash is incredible. People have told you all about him. They missed his sense of humor. He’s a funny guy. Please check “When I’ve got you”. There is a great video. Another video is “Be With Me”. These are both in English. His videos are like mini movies. I’ve been following Dimash since 2017. Every new song is different. His concerts are over the top. He sings for 3-4 hours. “Dears” from more than 70 countries fly in to see his concerts. He had a sold out concert at Barkley Center in New York. Many of his reactors have been to his concerts.

I agree that lyrics are so important. One of my first Dimash songs that I listened to from his album id was Screaming MV. Dimash did not have much "say" on this music video and it shows🙄, but there is one lyric line that actually stuck with me me forever. "Your blade of speech rips through every part of me" Not only a good Pop song but actually convinced me to take anger managment courses and change the way I react when angry. SOS is from a old French Canadian rock opera called Starmania! Its sung in french this one! It was written for the singer who had some good range, therefore this was interesting for Dimash to cover. He rose to fame over night Singing this one in China in 2017! Since this song has become his calling card! Also the visuals have some backstory in this one, at one point he is standing on a block of ice, to honor his friend, a fellow Kazahk olympic figureskater who got killed when his car was being stolen! And you see him in this video with wings on his back, referring to the bird seeing the world from above! Glad you like what you have seen from Dimash! He is one of a kind! And he truly touched my heart in a time when I needed it!

He sang this song on his digital concert in January 2021 during the pandemic. He had to cancel his tour and did this concert for his Dears/fans. That’s why there was no audiende to be seen or heard. SOS is a song in the French rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione. And of course the language is also French. The phrase „Sleep, child, sleep“ is sung in the musical as the character bends over the corpse of his girlfriend, who has committed suicide SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 21 so I can imagine…). The other competitiors might not have taken Dimash seriously at first because of his age and that they didn’t know him but that quickly changed after the performance of SOS, as you can see. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. That's really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. Wow, he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. Without subtitles, if you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and motivating his army to fight a losing battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. I kind of laugh imagining your journey with him, then entering Lara Fabian's world (she has been an inspiration to Dimash since his early teen's).
