The sluggish climbing and combat controls make even the standout boss fights so consistently frustrating that it's hard to enjoy the highlights. That isn’t an excuse at all. Tons of indie games are made by very few people, but come out magnificent. For example, Cuphead was made by very few developers, and it is a magnum opus. Developers need to know what they are capable of, and not tackle a scope of a game that is beyond their talents/capabilities. They are taking people’s hard earned money for their product after all. They shouldn’t be selling them crap.

I've beaten most of the bosses in the game now. While it has its minor flaws, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. People die a lot in From Software games, but it’s supposed to be like that and the games are top notch. Their controls are tight and the deaths are almost always fair. This game is nothing like that. The player dies all the time because of bad controls, bugs, and poorly designed mechanics. The game lacks polish.

You also don't fight anything outside of the bosses in SoTC like at all. But buggy probably isn't the word. You hold 1 button and release it to stab. That's the whole mechanic. The only thing that might make it feel that way is losing your grip mid charge. Not a lot of room for error when it comes to the combat of SoTC.

I’d argue that you are more likely to agree with this one because he is talking about how poorly executed the gameplay is but some people might easily be able to ignore that and enjoy the battles.

1) Nonsense. The original PS2version didn’t have clunky controls. It was a very polished game. 2) Having few devs isn’t an excuse, at all. There are _TONS_ of indie games that have very few developers that turn out to be masterpiece magnum opuses. Cuphead is an example. Developers need to be honest with themselves of what their limits are in talent/skill, to not bite off more than they can chew. They are selling a finished product to customers for their hard earned money, and those customers deserve a nice, polished product for it! Not a frustrating, buggy heap!

I've only played through the first few boss fights, and so far it does kinda feel like the punchline to a "Mom, can we get Shadow of the Colossus?" joke. I'm still definitely going to keep playing it. It really has been fun so far, it's just that nothing can possibly expect to reach what SotC did, and it's dang near impossible to not constantly be comparing the two.
