Prafulla Samantray’s take on Industrialisation at Dhinkia
Amidst the recent people‘s unrest at Dhinkia opposing the JSW integrated plant at Jagatsinghpur district, we spoke to Environmental Activist, The President of Lokshakti Abhijan, and winner of Green Nobel’ Goldman Environmental Prize 2017, Mr Prafulla Samantray.
Since four decade he has been fighting the battle of “Jal Jungal and Jamin”, supporting the marginalised people in their fight, may it be the battle of Dongaria Kondh against the Vedanta, or may it be the battle of farmers at Dhinkia against POSCO.
In laymen’s understanding that if there will be industry there will be development, but In Odisha there are resistance by the people .Recent unrest at Dhinkia raised many questions why people of those area opposed POSCO and now JSW. What will be the consequence the people will be facing if the industries come up? What are the environmental impacts of this Industry? Is this industrialization bringing development for the people? If not, then development for whom? These are many pertinent questions that Mr Samantray has raised? Let’s see his view.....
