Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi were locked at a score of 4-4 at the Quarter Finals of the FIDE World Cup 2023. It was time for the sudden death game of 3 mins + 2 seconds increment. Whoever won this game would advance to the Semi-Finals as well as book a spot in the Candidates 2024 (as Magnus is not likely to play the Candidates). A lot was at stake in this encounter. The game began and Pragg was nowhere to be seen! Finally he arrived 35 seconds late and played his knight to f3. It is a game that will get your heart thumping. Check out all the action with behind the scenes footage from the venue in Baku, Azerbaijan!

Pragg is mindblowing! From playing such exciting dominating games this tourney to winning a must win classical game with black which is extremely difficult to arriving late in a 3+2 armageddon game and still winning it with the colour that wasn't doing well in their match, he is just incredible! Perfect chess is a draw, black white doesn’t matter besides to maybe commentators
@tanken4249
@tanken4249 9 ай бұрын
It not call amargedon, it call sudden death. Armegedon mean the black will have less time than white, but if the game end in draw, the black will win, but sudden death has equal time plus if both draw, it will keep playing endlessly until one of the color side win, but pragna seem to dont mind get less time n break the deadlock at first try.😮

These matches proved that both these players dont succumb to pressure. They actually play the best under pressure 1) Arjun won must-win match 2) Prag came 30 secs late to the final match but still played the best, won the match
@misterfox8061
@misterfox8061 9 ай бұрын
Doesn't this show that they completely crack under pressure? There were 3(!) cases where a player only needed a draw with white to advance, and in all 3, they were not able to and succumbed to the pressure, even though at their level, a draw with white should be fairly easy to achieve.
@balasrivatsavyerramilli9960
@balasrivatsavyerramilli9960 9 ай бұрын
needing a drawn vs a win is less pressure comparatively; it's more pressure on the person needing the win, and since the previous commenter said they play well under pressure, that'd make sense, cus they then won@@misterfox8061

@@epiclover8639 bro in longer time format nihal is not as tough as these guys..i mean he is strong bt these guys r on another lvl if u count their age..nihal isn’t 2700 yet..he is a good tactical player bt he doesn’t have that that consistency in longer format..he will b more like a rapport type player..everyone loves him, bt all know he can't be world champion
