Sorry for the park infront of the train station - its called Sherwood for a reason :D but its getting better. Just few tips: dont buy trdelnik, dont buy matroshka, dont change money at the airport (best exchange company is at Kaprova street, 14), dont use common taxi (use bolt or uber), go outside Prague for few days.

I know I'm late to the party but: If you do go there seriously plan to spend the whole day in Troja. Not only is the zoo itself quite big and super-interesting, but there are other things to see - right next to the zoo there's a chateau/palace with lovely gardens, and further up the hill there's the botanical garden (also quite extensive).

Ah, yes, the sunrise. Back in the early 90s I worked as a construction labourer in Prague. On one job we were working on the roof of an office block. We started before dawn, and you could see the sparking trams down on the street. Then the sun would come up over the castle, and everyone stopped working just to look at it. It made the day quite tolerable.

I wish more tourists went to other awesome neighbourhoods too: Letná, Žižkov, Karlín, Smíchov, Vinohrady,... . The Old Town is beautiful but if that's all you visit, you're missing out

Zizkov is pretty popular with tourists/foreigners, so is Vinohrady. They're both beautiful neighborhoods but both have the largest influx of foreign/expat-targeted shops and restaurants outside of the very city center so I tend to avoid them. Dejvice, Karlin, and Letna/Holesovice are my favorite neighborhoods.
@matejpolak6638

@@chriscze6153 With foreigners and expats certainly, tourists not so much. Tourists usually come visit Prague for 3 to 4 days (often as a stop of their "Eurotrip") and they spend it all in Old Town, Malá Strana and Hradčany areas. Some even venture to parts of New Town, but that's about it, really. That's why the old streets, already very narrow, are so crowded and touristy.

I really really wish (and I’m not at all alone) that tourists wouldn’t get drunk in the streets and make so much noise and throw rubbish all around and not recycle when possible. It’s the main reason why locals sometimes frown upon tourists. And also to be honest, with covid the city became more livable because the huge crowds were gone...

Prague is great. Two things of note, the vendors near the Church of Tyn behind the clock have great gnochi and smoked ham. It's expensive because it is a bit of trap so close and there are places to get it cheaper im sure but hard to pass up with the view. Also the doughnut cones with chocolate and ice cream are amazing as well. It's a Prague specialty so you will see them about every 5 feet. Just make sure you look at the vendor and get the ones using charcaol.

Yes, Prague is beautiful. I'm glad you mentioned about the pickpockets. I watched them work! They do hand signals to each other and point at certain tourists - especially where the department stores are and of course when the clock strikes at the clock tower. However, in saying that, it hasn't put me off, as I've visited four times so far, from the UK. As long as you are aware, is the main thing. My favourite part of Prague is the Jewish quarters.

For food, go to Klašterní šenk and the restaurant just across from it for the aforementioned dill soup, plus rabbit with spinach and a black beer, and: U Kroka (garlic soup / česnečka) U Parlamentu (svíčková na Smetaně) Klášterní pivovar Strahov (brewery goulash)

@@chriscze6153 I am Catholic, so visiting churches and monasteries was important to me, though anyone could appreciate the solitary beautiful setting out there in Břevnov. I could have spent all day there just enjoying nature and Serenity, walking up the trails and nearly getting lost. There was also an old semi political art exhibit in one of the buildings. The black beer was unbelievably delicious, way lighter than you would expect, and the rabbit and spinach was possibly the single best meal I had in the country.

Hi Walter - here are my few questions and comments a s a person born here and living here for 38 years = all my life: 1.) Where is craft beer for a 1 USD??? (22 CZK) I have NEVER met such a place for all my life for sure. Common price in a typical Prague "City style pub"/beer restaurant is usually around 50-55 CZK (2,2-2,5 USD), for a 0,5 liter of beer, and 55-65 (2,5-3 USD) for the same amount of a small regional producer in chains like Budvarka (Budvar), Potrefená Husa(Staropramen), Šalanda(Krušovice), Pilsner Urquell Original Restaurant (Pilsner Urquell), Originál Gambrinus (Gambrinus), Bernard Pub(Bernard) - these all are chains, and many more single pubs. This are common Prague prices. In touristic areas are the price ofcourse much higher. 2.) Main train station - the city council has been trying to do something with it - Phase 1 (finished) - renovation of the historical roofing over the platform Phase 2a (finished from 3 sides, completed by this summer) - renovation of historical facade of the huge historical so called "Fanta Building" - Mr. Fanta designed the whole railway statiom around the year 1909. Phase 2b (next step) - renovation of the inner areas in the left and right wing ( central inner part already renovated) Phase 3 - (in process) prolong the underpass to the other side of the raiway station to the university and newly built office buildings Phase 4a (2nd next step) - building a new tram tracks from the National Musem (Venceslas Square) to main entrance of the so called "New Building from 1970´s" of the railway station and connect it with the tracks going to Žižkov area.. Phase 4b - renovation of the park in front of the entrance to the railway station nicknamed "Sherwood" (Guess Why?) and eleimination of all that strange and non-welcomed individuals occupiing all the park benches... (to clean the place from them).

Do not visit just prague. Go through countryside, visit castles, mountains, try local cuisine. Rent a bike, fish in pond or hunt a deer with local hunter/fishing associations. Go swim in local lakes, visit international move festival in Karlovy Vary, ride a historic train. This country truly opens to you through activities, whether you climb rocks, sail a river in canoe or walk through our forests. So many people visit for a short period of time, and in the end see only crowded prague and airport. Other cities are even cheaper, not crowded and still have plenty t offer. Public transport reaches EVERYWHERE, even the smallest vilage in mountains has a bus coming twice a day.

Cross the river and check out the John Lennon wall and there's even a John Lennon pub. Never did find out the connection though. And yes it is cheap. Even the Hard Rock Cafe prices are cheaper when you compare to Euro's or British Pounds.

Smore more tips: - You can easily buy ticket for the tram or metro from the app "PID Lítačka" (dont forget to validate!). - Uber works great in Prague and is very cheap, the local taxi app "Liftago" is very good as well (never just hail a cab on the street). - It is not allowed to drink in public everywhere in Prague, especially in Prague 1/city center. Check out where it is okay and where it is not at: news.expats.cz/expats-info/where-you-cant-drink-in-prague/ - Dont miss out on amazing areas of Prague like Zizkov, Vinohrady, Prague 6 and Prague 7 and more. - Dont miss out on the many fantastic parks like "Riegrovy Sady", "Letna", "Vitkov", "Parukarka", "Havlíčkovy sady" and "Stromovka". - And spend time at and around Vysehrad, especially the parts south of the castle since it is very unexplored by tourist but still very nice.

Hey, Mark! Good advice. But why is there such a short time in announcing which track your train is leaving from? Ten minutes sounds like quite a rush to me.
@drakulkacz6489

There are too many trains for not enough railways. So they sometime had to improvise and change the platform at the last moment. But if you are local, you know - for example - that if you want to go to South Bohemia (and to Austria maybe), that will be one of the last two platforms. So you don´t have to wait in the hall and you are staying already in the coridor under those platform and waiting between when the sign comes. I´ve experience just once that they used different platform for the train.

Yeah the park in front of main station is an embarrassment, a lot of homeless people and junkies. Maybe take the metro, just one stop to Venceslav square. And if you want to come here, I highly recommend thge channel Honest guide, where you can find great tips for restaurants and other interesting things. And also what tourist traps and scams you want to avoid

The best way to get from the airport to the city is on the "airport bus" 119. Out of the terminal and cross the road and the bus stop is there. There are also ticket machines to get a ticket. When you get a ticket it needs validating when you get on the bus. Stick it in the yellow machine (they are at the bus stop and on the bus as well). The 119 takes you to the metro terminus. It's worth downloading a public transport map to a mobile phone as well. If you have a contactless pay app on your phone the ticket machines should accept it for payment. Tickets are good for all public transport for a given time from validation. A 90 minute ticket should get you anywhere you are going. Since you are going to be in Prague for a while buy a few extra tickets as well for later as sometimes it can be hard to find someone selling them outside of the metro stations.

On the other hand, Prague has good and ridiculously cheap public transport, so the incentive is to park your car on the outskirts and get to the centre by metro

It's very heavy and most Czechs do not actually eat this kind of food - the ones who do eat it once or twice a year, and I confirm once a year is more than enough. But my favorite Czech dish is "zelnacka", a meaty but also veggie filled soup. The best dish of the region is halusky, a Slovakian type of gnocchi dish, and can be found in many places in Prague too (but shhhh Slovakians will say it's crap, but it's not). If you travel to Czech Republic or Slovakia I highly recommend these two.

When my friends and I were at the train station, waiting for the gate info for our train to Vienna to show up on the board along with a lot of other folks going on the same train, a friendly man came up and said to follow him to where the train to Vienna would depart from. So, about 30 or 40 of us followed him to the train departure area and then he demanded payment (I think 5 or 10 euro per person, if I remember correctly) from everyone. It was a helpful service but I think everyone assumed that this guy was just being nice (naive, I know). I look forward to going back to Prague someday.

I would not pay for it, even such a horrible sum, it was a scam. Prague is not Egypt or similar region, where you can expect giving "bakshish" to people for a service you did not ask for. He was a jerk :-) hope you did not pay, you were in majority and would beat him up :-)

Would love to see you team up with Honest Guide Prague to do a video! Prague is quite possibly my favourite city in the world. I absolutely fell in love with the place. The people were lovely, the food was fantastic and we had great service everywhere. As a photographer it was close to paradise. The few scams we saw were so blatantly obvious they were easy to avoid (and I always avoid exchange offices when abroad anyway), Only time we got scammed was when my mother was unwell on a walk and we had to get a taxi and the driver ripped us off (which we knew but getting back to the hotel was more important), but we've experienced far far worse in other countries. I had hoped to get back there this year, but I'll be aiming to visit in 2021 instead.
