Thanks for the great idea Amy. I also have some of the same tiles lying around from when I made coasters using napkins years ago. You can also use Folk Art Plaid or Delta acrylic sealer applied using a foam brush (Michaels). I think I bought my cork at Dollarama. No odour or fumes. Now I plan to make sets for my friends as Christmas gifts. I love your videos.

Those large MFT background stamps have never been on my radar due to the size and some significant weakness in my left hand. But placing the stamp on a cutting plate? Genius! My wishlist just got longer!

Hello! It Oct 2021 and I’m just seeing your great video. Hoping you see this comment/question: Can I use Versafine Ink? All of the videos I see say you have to use Stazon. Although I love the black ink on these beautiful tiles, I also want to do some that I can stamp and selectively paint. Of course, I’d properly seal because these would be drink coasters and not just decorative. May I ask your thoughts on this, please? Thank you💕
@PrairiePaperandInk3 жыл бұрын
Versafine is an oil based pigment ink and isn't meant to work on surfaces other than papers. Cant' hurt to try it but I doubt it will dry or set especially if you are coloring as well. Hence me recommending StazOn inks for it - you can stamp with StazOn and then color in images too.
@Bee-Kind-Baker3 жыл бұрын
@@PrairiePaperandInk , thank you so much for replying . I understand what you’re saying about it being oil based. But, you say if I stamp out the image with Stazon, I can color/ paint with another ink. Wouldn’t the ink I used to color with cause problems too?
@PrairiePaperandInk3 жыл бұрын
@@Bee-Kind-Baker you'd have to test it and try it out!

I would be so tempted to cut one of those cork sheets into 16 squares so that each one would make a full set of coasters :-) I love this idea for a homemade gift ... Will have to give it a try! Please do more vids like this

Could you please tell me if the sealer ended up smearing the ink or caused running? Thanks so much 💕 Also, I want to do a little selective coloring on some of my coasters. Any advise on what I can use? I have Zig real brush watercolors, distress oxide ink pads and Ranger Archival pads. Have tried to paint with the archivals and they must be too dry . Can’t seem to pick up the color. Oxides are water reactive so I’m thinking the sealer will cause them to run. I’ve seen others say they use alcohol markers, but I do not have these. Thanks for any help and sorry for the lengthy question 💕

I couldn't tell you with these ones - I made them a long loooonnnnggg time ago and I think I gave them away. As far as colouring - I did tiles like this and stamped them with StazOn and colored them in with pastels and a blender pen then sealed them with a spray sealant. They're still fine now 15+ years later.
@Bee-Kind-Baker2 жыл бұрын
@@PrairiePaperandInk , well… 15 years is great! Thank you so much. When you say “ pastels”, do you mean watercolors?
@PrairiePaperandInk2 жыл бұрын
@@Bee-Kind-Baker no - pastels. Stampin Up used to have a set of pan pastels that we used a blender brush with to color images and that’s what I used. Pan pastels still exist with other brands but I haven’t used any in over a decade now

Those tiles are nearly impossible to find any more. I used to work at one of the big box home stores and at that time, they were more readily available ... not now so if you see them in your area and want then ... get them, because they'll most likely be gone next time you're there.

If you use Stazon can you still bake in oven, or don't you need to?
@PrairiePaperandInk9 жыл бұрын
willysmom1 I still do just to make sure the ink is completely set. And I still sealed my StazOn stamped ones with acrylic sealer - not sure if it was overkill or not - but nearly 10 years later they've held up as I said in the video.
