This is one of my favourite hymns, so beautifuly payed magnificent by both organists, 3.15 The roof is raised and I truly feel Christ with me, Brings tears to my eyes, Blows me away, I shall wait for that day to see jesus Christ our Lord, I'll be on my knees Amen

If organs are played this magnificently, one can never have "superfluous" sound in service to God. Coordinating two instruments this finely takes great skill and artistry. These players make a simple hymn into a magnificent anthem glorifying Him as well as doing full justice to one of the great musical treasure of Western art. Bravo to you both and to the audience. "He who sings, prays twice."

The Methuen Hall organ was spot on at the ending. Big tiger in that tank. Ogletree boys did a good job with Methuen and Mission Church. Surprised they did not put a spare in Mission when the wall collapsed. Would have fooled many.

@ltk04gt The is all Hymnal 1982 (Episcopal). The third verse was somewhat embellished by playing the right hand 8va and filling in the chords in both hands as possible. Registration is what Virgil Fox called an "American Ensemble." He defined that as all the Strings, Flutes 8+4, light Principals (no upper work), Vox Humana, Tremulants, 32' through 8' in the Pedal and all the sub and super couplers in the organ.
@pwmcmz4 жыл бұрын
Light principals as in small scaled swell principals, or all 8 foots? I guess it’s really dependent on the instrument also.
@organpower4 жыл бұрын
@@pwmcmz Basically, Fox was referring to non-assertive, light 8' Principals, such as an enclosed Geigen Principal, probably 8' only, as part of his "American Ensemble" concept. In other words, stops that blend together pleasantly to create a complex, yet sweet ensemble. 4' couplers, and possibly 16' couplers also, can further enrich the effect.

@AECEntertainment I played the Walcker a couple of times on this program. The sight of four organs can be confusing. The console in the center of the case is the original Walcker tracker console before Skinner rebuilt the organ; the large one to the right is the current console; the 4-manual Rodgers we used on the Purcell is to the left; and, of course, the Rodgers we used for most of the duo stuff is in the center at audience level.
@ha632 жыл бұрын
So the original Walcker tracker console is no longer used?
@organpower2 жыл бұрын
@@ha63 To the best of my knowledge, the Walcker console has not been functional for many decades, probably since the 1940's.

Praise my soul, the King of heaven (John Goss) Coro de King's College, Stephen Cleobury Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet thy tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore his praises sing: Alleluia, alleluia! Praise the everlasting King. Praise him for his grace and favor to our fathers in distress; praise him still the same for ever, slow to chide and swift to bless: Alleluia, alleluia! Glorious in his faithfulness. Father-like, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hand he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Alleluia, alleluia! Widely yet his mercy flows. Angels, help us to adore him; ye behold him face to face; sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space. Alleluia, alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace.

Both Marshall and Ogletree used to represent Rodgers, and this video was, I believe, filmed when they were comparing a state-of-the-art Rodgers organ with the mighty Methuen organ with a "Which is playing now?" test. They now market their own M&O virtual pipe organs with Opus 1 being installed at Trinity Church Wall Street and with Cameron Carpenter playing Opus 8 as his International Touring Organ. There were other videos of this comparison but they were deleted when the duo stopped representing Rodgers.
@organrick7 жыл бұрын
drbobdrake yes it was. I went to that concert, which was in 2000 or 2001 (I don't remember just when it was), but it was the second annual OrganPower concert, and it was in the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Methuen, MA.

The two consoles on the left (bottom one being played and upper left vacant) are Rodgers digital intruments installed in the hall for this concert. The console farthest to the rear is the original for the pipe organ permanently installed in this concert hall which has been replaced by the terraced four manual console being played on the far right.

@organrick5 жыл бұрын
Nick Jay It wasn’t at a church, it was at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Methuen, Massachusetts. The console in the far back was the original console for the music hall organ (the current console is the one on the right.) If I remember correctly, they had a couple of other smaller ones there as well that didn’t get into the video.

@jorobinson yes you are absolutely correct. It is called over gilding the lily. I speak as an organist. At its *best* this is not actually achieving anything because the other organist is superfluous as I have already commented. To couple sounds together is the whole point of an *organ*, so having two organists like this is not like having too pianists for example. One would have been better using both organists at two separate concerts....

Granted, it's like, huh? The hall's pipe organ console is on stage to the right. Built into the organ case in the center is the original console that has been preserved, but is not in use. The console on the left and the one in the center on the main floor are Rodgers instruments that our company brought in for the event so that we could do some fun duet playing, of which this video is an example. Here's another one from the event - "Litanies" by Jehan Alain: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKO0g6Wpgql8kNEsi=_bDoSZ5E7rgpNvHN
