Pran Refused The Filmfare Award in 1972 | Bollywood Villains Unknown Facts

Pran refused to accept the 1972 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award on grounds that the Filmfare award for Best Music should have gone to Ghulam Muhammad for the music of Pakeezah (1972) and not 'Shankar Jaikishan' for Be-Imaan (1972). That evening Filmfare awards went haywire. R D Burman was not even nominated for his songs of Amar Prem and Kishore Kumar did not win the Best Male Playback Singer Award for Chingari Koi Bhadke. The award went to Mukesh for Jai bolo be-imaan ki. Rajesh Khanna was nominated for best actor award for his performance in Amar Prem but the award went to Manoj Kumar for Be-Imaan. Pran received many awards and honours in his career. He won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded as the "Villain of the Millennium" by Stardust in 2000. The Government of India honoured Pran with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 for his contributions to the arts. Pran was honoured in 2013 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national award for cinema artistes, by the Government of India.

It is 'Film fare' not 'Film fair'. 1972 awards were literally "Beimaan" awards. The jury must be ashamed of themselves for ignoring Amara Prem and Pakeezah. I salute Pran sahab for rejecting the award.

Filmfare awards were manipulated, Rishi Kapoor openly accepted he purchased Award for Bobby for himself & Dimple Kapadia, Yash Chopra also purchased awards for Deewar & Sippy lost award for Sholay, Hum movie producer purchased Filmfare Award for Amitabh & himself. Rakesh Roshan did the same for Kaho naa Pyaar hai & Krish. Karan Johar did the same for My name is Khan. SRK openly told on Filmfare stage tht he tried to buy Filmfare award for Bazziger but was denied by Khalid the jury head of Filmfare.

There was no jury to decide Filmfare awards. It was decided on the basis of voting by public through submitting forms printed in Filmfare. How these awards were manipulated is an interesting story on which you can make a video. If it is so, then sure that all prizes are fixed and biased. Pakiza and Amar Prem were much better films than Beimaan. Pakiza was best from angels. Ever green songs, photography, acting and story. Amar Prem was little behind but Beimaan was no where near by. Shame to Film fare.

I personally think that the Filmfare award in 1972 should be given to the involved persons in the films AMAR PREM and PAKEEZAH. In fact, those films became more superhit than the film BE-IMAAN, even the songs composed in the two films are now very popular and most of the Indians have listened the great compositions, while songs of BE-IMAAN are not so famous in people and they don't even want to compare them with AMAR PREM or PAKEEZAH. Whatever happened at the Filmfare awards ceremony, those films are still on everyone's mind, and they will not remember the partiality happened in the event but the song "CHINGARI KOI BHADKE" rather than "JAI BOLO BEIMAAN KI", though the Jury did BEIMAANI to AMAR PREM and PAKEEZAH.

Shankar jaikishan music was also good and the song jai bolo beimaan ki was played in every corner of the city. Even the raakhi song was a hit and in every Raksha Bandhan day the song was played in the radio every year. So the music of Beimaan was not good is wrong.

In the artificial world of show business, such people are very rare.The versatility shown by Pran saab in doing different roles with ease, is itself proof of his superb acting ability. Yep also in 1970 film Pehchan also got all the awards. Very similar state with this. It has many good songs but it seems strange. I think that time both film were considered groundbreaking but in future they are forgettable films.

Absolutely Pran Sahab was correct. He is totally justified in rejecting the film fare award. During that year, Gulam Mohammad sahab's Pakeezah music was the best followed by RD Burman's Amar Prem and OP Nayyar Sahab's Ek Baar Musku Rado...too were superior to Beimaan songs.

This was not the only year when Filmfare gave an award to movie or artistes who didn't deserve it. There are many instances in the history where artistes or movies were given awards which was not fair. Pran Sahib was the only one showed integrity and refused the award. Wish there were more people like him.
