Lauryn needs to be held accountable for the way she has treated her fans over the years. I only saw Lauryn once when she was a surprise guest at the Apollo for a Bob Marley tribute. I swore that I would never buy a ticket because of her reputation. I almost caved once and bought a ticket because it was on Groupon. I abandoned my cart and stuck to my principles. Lauryn is truly my fave. Once I saw that she would be touring with the Fugees, I thought maybe that had come to an agreement and would hold her accountable. She canceled on October 30 last year. I was an hour into my Uber ride. I had already booked a hotel room, so I was stuck in a slow city on a Monday night. The only thing that saved me from getting too angry is that the hotel desk staff told me that another woman was angry because she had arrived to town after a nine hour car ride with her children and dog to see Lauryn. I can't imagine how many people have been really disappointed and out of time and money due to her attendance issues over the years. It's confirmed. I won't be seeing her in person unless she pops up as a surprise again.

Everyone knows buying a ticket for anything to do with Lauryn Hill is a gamble. Do it or don't, but at this point nobody has any excuse to be mad if she doesn't show up or doesn't give a crap. She's been doing it for decades. It's arguably what she's most famous for these days. What does "holding her accountable" even look like anyway? Just generally making her unhappy somehow? Buhloone Mindstate is the one I have to revisit at least twice a year. Weird because The Score definitely got more plays at the time and I would said Buhloone was meh… but as time goes on, it’s escalated into my top 10 and is one of my GOAT’s. It encapsulates that era so well and I love that De La Soul is still at it, doing it because it is who they are, while others look down their nose at millions of dollars. They were warning about the exploitation of black artists on ‘I Am, I Be’ which is why the argument of conscious artists being neglected so they don’t go mainstream holds a lot of merit- bc it’s been happening for decades. Rap about respecting women and the perils of unprotected sex won’t get the promotion that sending the opposite message will from the suits in charge.

The Fugees are always going to be on my playlists, but they also never fail to disappoint me. The three of them are so annoying/ awful/ ego-blind that when they reunited, I predicted this exact situation. We’re never seeing The Fugees as a group again until all three of them go to therapy, experience ego death, and file for chapter 7 bankruptcy.

When I say the locs growing out of my head are specifically for The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill😭 I have seen her 4 times in concert.... and she was late EVERY time. EVERY time. By hours and hours. However, I will say, that the chemistry between these 3 are gone, and she deffo experienced some untoward things while in The Fugees. TL;DR. I saw the Fugees in 2005 in London, England. It was amazing. They did their hits and her solo hits. Ever since then, her reputation has gotten worse. She was coming to Toronto last year and I told my friend nah...with the way she's late, and how strict our bylaws are with concerts ending by a certain time, there's like a 0 percent chance we're gonna get a full set 😂

This case sounded very odd to me… as it would seem to me that this tour was NOT a fugees tour deal but a Lauren deal that she billed as the fugees. If live nation or whomever was backing this tour backed, backed it as a fugees tour then I don’t see why only Lauren would in charge of the business side. And the fact that the other two members knew nothing about the financials tells me they were dealing directly with Lauren and were not contractually being paid by live nation. And if that’s the case then yes, Lauren would and should be taking the bulk of the payout as a solo artist on the tour AND a member of the fugees hence the 40% and the split as I’m sure she had a solo set on the tour. And also since she was the one contracted thru management and promotion she would have the right to cancel the tour as well as having no obligation to inform the other members about deals SHE was offered. Is that fucked up? Absolutely! Is it legally wrong? No. It’s clear that both members knew what the split was when they agreed to it and have no right to feel they deserved a 5 million dollar deal that wasn’t offered to them but was solely offered to Lauren.

I like Miseducation as much as the next guy, but Lauryn Hill is a textbook case of someone having an outsized amount of skill at a thing they don't truly care about.
