Indeed if you have sugar and humans you can pretty much figure it out, this is after all how the stuff ends up getting produced in prisons. Stuff to ferment can be found anywhere food is present and suitable microorganisms for fermentation can be found as they are themselves frequent colonists of said human colonists. Doesn't exactly take a genius either no doubt 12 people smart enough to even get through the most basic application filters would have at least several people able to figure this out.

Hey Pravus! As a veteran player of Surviving Mars, I have some advice that will make terraforming so much easier. If you press or hold shift while placing a terraform site, then you can blob it out and make more than just a flattened line in one go. Thank you if you are reading this.

Since Dust Storms and Cold Waves aren't firing, this game is perfectly playable with only a little bit of caution, and getting MDS early enough to minimize the risk a Meteor Shower bombs the hell out of your colony - which is really the only loss condition you face at this point.

25:40 that's why pipe valve exist in the game, but for late game there is no tech to automate them... 28:47 you can make services work all night because they gives some comfort that way, and obviously science lab, when get enough people.

I've read it's also possible to just delete the leak, since building a new pipe costs exactly the same as repairing the leak, but deleting immediately stops the valuable life support from venting. Just started playing, so I'll have to wait for my first leak to test it

Protip if you want leak proof pipes you dont need the breakthrough tech just build valves all the way down they cant leak same for power cables and buttons.

While these ones are cool, I think it is so meta focus on max difficulty that.... is it actually difficult or challenging or is it just vs RNG. If Pravus ever does another. I ponder about what it everything was randomized as much as possible. Randomly select start sponsor and start location. Max randomized tech, etc. Have to play with no idea what will be getting. A blind start so to speak.

Started a game on elysium alpha (all 1-bar disasters except meteors, which is 2-bars). Got a dust storm by sol 13, an electrostatic dust storm by sol 20, and a 6-sol cold snap by sol 25. Definitely still broken in B&B content patch #2.

That is a great idea as I am sure these things would be used as colonist transports as needed if this was real life. They are described as exactly that after all this thing would essentially be a glorified bus just with a pressure hull and life support system added.

I think the best path now isto purchase a small electronics factory andand use the space liberated by the concrete extractor for something like a barrel dome with both vistas . The with 3d machining done you can get going on advanced ressources with enough population Also don't forget sponsors goals for free supply pods etc etc...

try the same mode at my first breakthroughs was lucky got superior cable and pipe :)) free pipe and cable and they can't be destroyed by nature :D, then 3rd one was a eternal fusion, the fusion reactor didn't need colonists to operate it and had free power :)

$100 million per supply pod is nothing compared to the stab of inflation. If you can figure out what you will need, you can spend all your funding on Sol 1 and do better than buying things when you need them, or waiting for a rocket to export rare metals before you buy. Inflation takes effect on Sol 20, and prices increase by 10% of base. On Sol 40, they increase by the same absolute amount. What buys you 50 electronics on Sol 1 buys you just 25 on Sol 200.

I don't understand why you're thinking of getting machine parts factories rather than *electronics* factories, when what you have (now) is an abundance of Rare Metals, which are what you need to make electronics, and you also need electronics for your research lab - it seems like a bad idea to make something like a machine parts factory that consumes a lot of metals when you don't have a dome anywhere near a metals deposit

Is there any strong reason to cluster your sensors like he does? Spreading them around the map still gives you a scanning advantage, but still provides the early warning benefits……

No there is really no good reason to do that especially as he has the Futurist commander so they do not require power or maintenance. Remote towers are trickier to manage without that but even then doable as you can use switches to isolate those long power lines if they leak, the maintenance issue comes with some micromanagement but entirely doable with an RC Transport and RC Commander.

This is one of the multiple examples you can find of Pravus not really being as knowledgeable about the game as he claims to be, which is especially funny considering how he complains about backseat gaming while at the same time complaining about struggles he wouldn't be having if he actually spent any time looking into the mechanics of the game. I will say he's at least better at this game than he was at Frostpunk. Those playthroughs were painful to watch.

Also there is a mod that shows map stats before starting the run. It also shows breakthroughs. Therefore they are pre-determined. So it might very well be the case that you won't get the ones you want. Either do not rely on specific ones or make sure you get them a priori. You will be able to survive without them anyway. It will just be a little harder.

Building polymer production is probably the worst choice. You don't even have maintenance in that regard. Would it not be better to have machine parts production to eleviate your maintenance? Since you have an income now, you might as well buy the polymers you need.

I don't know what you're on about with the breakthroughs. Just choose wisely from the regular tree and you should be fine. And if I were you, I'd start thinking about setting up something near a vein of ordinary metals. Out of all the breakthroughs I got in my last game, the only one I can say saved me was mining from depleted veins. I never even bothered drilling for water. I got more than enough water from my evaporators... and for dog's sake, put VALVES and SWITCHES on your electric and water lines while you still have time. They're so cheap and easy to use. If you start deleting pipes and cables again during a dust storm, I'll quit watching.

for maximum difficulty he has to play this map, and while some other locations on the map could be argued for, the double vista is properly the best spot. So a new spot would either make it more difficult by playing sub optimally or make it a less than max difficulty run, which would probably still be almost as interesting by just being a new map, but it would make eventual victory a bit hollow if you're 10% of max difficulty.
