This prawns curry is a dish that originates from the coastal regions of Mangalore. It is one of the most popular dishes in Mangalorean cuisine and has a very rich and spicy flavor, which is obtained by adding a variety of spices to the curry. That’s how I would describe this Mangalorean-style prawn curry (Prawn gassi) recipe. Serve it over cooked rice or dosas for a complete gastronomic experience.
INGREDIENTS:
For making masala -
Coconut oil - 1 tsp
Kashmiri red chilly - 5 - 6
Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
Black pepper - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 6 seeds
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Carom seeds - 1 pinch
Curry leaves - 1 string
For making masala -
Coconut oil - 2 tsp
Garlic - 1 1/2 tbsp
Ginger - 1/2 tbsp
Coconut - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4th tsp
Tamarind - small piece
For making curry-
Prawns - 200 grms
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Garlic - 1/2 tbsp
Onion - 1 (medium)
Tomato - 1 (small)
Turmeric powder - 1/4th tsp
Salt as needed
