Roger has never retired from a match! NEVER!! He is amazing, what an inspiration!!

This match really showed the inner toughness of Roger, depsite losing he put up and unbelievable fight and would not give in until the last ball, that game at 5-4 in the 3rd just summed it all up, what a fighter, which he isn't given enough credit for because it just looks so easy and natural to him every time he plays,but this match showed it all.People say Rafa is the biggest fighter trying for every ball,but its not like he's never retired in his life before, Roger has never retired, amazing

Best 3 set match of 2008...ATP players voted Hamburg semi between Rafa and Novak as the best B03 match that year....but this match had slightly higher level and lot more drama.....most importantly lot of variety

holy shit i never seen him in so much pain. when he sat down like that it was scary. mono,slump, and back injury was hell for him. if he never had mono he would still dominate for sure. the slump after mono can last for years depending on the person

Moreover, Rogers statistic is very impressive that he has never retired, but that is just as much to do with clever scheduling than it is him being some superhuman, indeed I would argue he just withdraws from a tournament if he ever feels he's going to have a problem, especially if its just before a more important one, I feel other players would have this statistic too if they were to do the same, and use their brain.

Roger is a master of shot combination. However, there is a man who can return any kind of shot who calls Rafa Nadal. These two guys are 100% sure pushing tennis up to a new level~

@smithy262626 - i was exaggerating a little when i say he could barely move, but i have never seen Roger in seemingly so much pain, and he never usually shows anything even when he has an injury, which shows this must have been bad, he has an amazing knack of relaxing and playing well when he is not 100%, for example when he picked up an ankle injury at the end of 2005 and was pretty far from 100% yet destroyed Gaudio 6-0 6-0. Roger's achievements are 'inhuman', he deserves everything he gets.

roger mononucleosis and back injury ... got him a very bad year but now hes free of those thing who made him lose some matches that without them roger definitely would win roger is ready master and the usopen are for him this year !!!

@TJFederer15 I dont think for a second think he could barely move or hit a serve, he was still hitting the corners from what i can see of the last set, admittedly i didnt watch the match live so I dont have a full picture of how many first serves he made and how fast he was. But you cant play tennis at this level against a defensive player of Murrays calibre if you cant move. I agree completely about Djokovic, but I dont believe that any other player would have retired straight away as you claim

Federer was definitely hurt in this match, you can clearly see that. He was serving pretty badly and the movement was hardly up to par like it usually is with him.

That comment was over a year ago... and even Murray was not sure of whether he would go on to win a GS later (he has 2 now BTW) in his career or not... Fed, Nadal and Djoker seemed too much out of reach for Murray during that time. Now on what you said about Murray being the greatest ever to never win the Career Grand Slam, Just NO! That player is "Pistol Pete" who never came close to winning French but still is one of the GOATs.

whats the problem about that? If he is in pain, If the match is tough and going to a third set, If there is a physio available and If he is allowed to do so, why not call for help?

@littlebendixon In the matches that really matter to Murray (both their matches in the slams and the WTF's) Federer won because he's stronger mentally. That's one of the reasons Murray hasn't won a GS yet.
@IricForset15 жыл бұрын
You going to say the same about Nadal everytime he calls a physio to click is knee back in or massage his leg?
@smithy26262613 жыл бұрын
@TJFederer15 Anyway my point is more that Roger is given a 'superhuman' status over many others which I dont feel is fully justified, however you are clearly a Federer fan and im not so much so we are never going to agree. Obviously I still have a lot of respect for Federer and i am not trying to belittle his achievements

@smithy262626 - If that had been Novak, Rafa or Murray in Roger's situation where he could barely move or hit a serve they would have retired straight away, especially Djokovic, who retires from almost anything, he even retired because he had a cold when playing against Roger in Monte Carlo in 2008, disgraceful, thankfully he's seemingly cut that out a little bit these days. Murray's knee pain isn't constant, it occasionally comes up now and again, doesn't seem to affect his movement at all.

It seems like poor Murray will go down as the greatest player ever who didn't win a slam..

I cannot stand how every single tennis video on youtube I come across has endless Roger fanboys all over it, yes he is probably the best player ever, but he is not tso far ahead of everyone else he has to be put on this pedelstool where he is towering over everyone else. Yes in this video he showed courage, but no more so then plenty of players do all the time, Murray has a condition where his kneecap never fused together properly and it has most likely given him constant pain always
