great video and knockdown. Bothers me to see no eye protection or gloves taking windows. Also taking windows merely to vent when they can be opened.
@markkrammes48734 жыл бұрын
One of the first things we were taught back in my days! I hope they are still teaching that, but in this case, it looks like they aren't! You have very little if any fire showing after the knockdown, do they realize how silly breaking windows looks like when they could easily access the interior and open the windows!

This a joke right? Where do I start? I’m going to suggest that you invest in some Firefighter 1 training first. Them move upwards from there. I would also suggest some incident command training for your chiefs.
@ffjsb4 жыл бұрын
Looks like they did as much damage ventilating as the fire did. You know you've got a screwed up FD when a Chief is using a hook, it's clear he doesn't know what a command function entails.
@justanotherguy11104 жыл бұрын
I never understood this whole ideology that a white helmet/chief can't still be a "fireman". Once they get promoted, that automatically in some parallel universe doesn't allow them to get dirty anymore? As long as they aren't actively running command functions, and there's another qualified person running the show, I don't see what the problem is. Maybe I'm spoiled to have known some great chief officers who aren't afraid to get sweaty and dirty and still wanna do some work.
@ffjsb4 жыл бұрын
@@justanotherguy1110 Why do you need a Chief to be a firefighter???? There are WAY too many functions for them to be filling instead of on a nozzle or with a pike pole. But then again, this is Pa. where virtually zero training is required, so that's why you see so much stupid stuff happening there. A Chief should be doing Incident Command, accountability, safety officer, staging officer, water supply officer, sector or division command before they pick up a tool or put on an SCBA.
@justanotherguy11104 жыл бұрын
@@ffjsb And as I already said, as long as those tasks are already taken care of and controlled by qualified personnel, then what is the big deal if a Chief wants to get dirty and do work rather than bark orders? Who are you to tell them they can't? Have they all of a sudden lost that right just because they have a different title and a different color helmet/gear? I'll never buy into that bullshit stigma you're trying to sell, no offense. Thank god my Chief is still a fireman at heart, and not just a paper pusher. Hell, he went interior with us last time we did live burn training.
@ffjsb4 жыл бұрын
@@justanotherguy1110 If you have that many Chiefs at a scene that ALL of the command roles are filled, WHY is that Chief even at the scene, and why are there so many Chiefs?????? Going interior in a live burn has NOTHING to do with doing it on a working fire. You must be a Pa. "firefighter".
@r.a.hassel80064 жыл бұрын
Yeah when I was a deputy chief, I worked a number of fires as a firefighter, simply because we had more chiefs than firefighters, so a couple of chiefs geared up and when in. Also I have worked fires where we have had as many as 80 firefighters doing a interior attack at once, believe me there are going to be a couple of chiefs inside with those 80 firefighters supervising.
@hardcore200354 жыл бұрын
Guess I was trained differently as a Firefighter. While responding I would be putting on my gear and airpack. So when I got off the rig. Also The Engineer would be getting the Hose charged for us to go inside. As for the truck work, the Truck Company would be doing their job.
@justanotherguy11104 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same boat with you brother. Not knocking these guys for it, but me personally I don't understand why you would want to come off the truck, not ready to go to work. I mean hell, even for routine alarm activation I still come off the truck with full gear, SCBA and a tool ready to go to work. It's called professionalism.

@@bradyholiday2012 There was hardly any smoke on that floor. There was no need to do anything but open the top sash. Breaking windows just because you can is childish, disrespectful and irresponsible. If there was a good chance the fire was on that floor, then you need to do it for venting and to create an egress location.

I hope they filmed this incident and will use it to teach how NOT to work a fire scene. I'm assuming these are pretty much all volunteers, because any professionally trained outfit would know to at least wear gloves and face protection when taking out windows and stretching lines. What's that chief doing with that plaster hook? Doesn't he trust his firefighters to do the job? The city is paying him to lead, not the work. And is there a shortage of SCBA's in that area? it would so appear.

This is why us good Volunteers get bad reps. We got the Rookies (Hookies) operating the quint just to play with the turn table controls, have JR on the extension ladder with no one footing the ladder, gloves or eye protection, have windows all over the structure be smashed out, three men with packs on and a pissed off insurance company writing a check for the unnecessary damage. That entire area is backwards down there as are a lot of other places in the state. It's pretty sad there are no state requirements to put your life at risk and to protect others in the state of Pennsylvania other than the out dated requirements of the department you choose to join. No rules for being born an idiot and dying a hero.
