So nice of you to correct yourself on the Carve the Mark issue, I was super excited to read the book but after reading about some of the issues I'm kind of second-guessing that decision. I thought it was very sweet of you to apologize for not recognizing the problems in the book, but we can't all be perfect readers and I don't think there's anyone who will hold this against you. Love your videos! :)

To anyone in this comment section asserting that the book isn't racist and that racism doesn't exist in literature mirroring books like this, I invite you to do research. I invite you to read more than just that one post, to listen to the marginalized people and minorities who have read this book and find the trope hurtful. Look more into it than, "they're just social justice warriors" or "they're just angry." Stereotyping and portraying a demographic of people to be brutal savages who murder for sport IS racist. Sure, when Veronica sat down to type out her book she didn't intend for it to be racist, but for POC who have read books like this for YEARS who depict white people as the good, nice people and people of color as the brutal, savage people, it grows old. It grows old fast. So once again, nobody is overreacting to this and I invite you to look more into it before you declare that the POC who dislike this book are wrong. Here are some links to tweet threads from POC if you were interested in looking more into how these tropes are harmful: twitter.com/theauslibrary/status/794173560965058560 twitter.com/mynameismarines/status/805186359015198720 twitter.com/theauslibrary/status/806315493451657216 twitter.com/mynameismarines/status/805189918842556416 twitter.com/TristinaWright/status/806123083102912512 twitter.com/Claribel_Ortega/status/805537634198155264 twitter.com/novelparadise/status/805549399052926976 t.co/33kvlTjFFN

A book I recently picked up is Wonder Women by Sam Maggs (www.goodreads.com/book/show/28503941-wonder-women). It's about women throughout history in various fields whom most people have never heard of because their discoveries and innovations were credited to men, never talked about, or otherwise forgotten. I'm not quite halfway through it, but I'm really enjoying it, and learning a lot.

The fact that arcs for Carve the Mark have been out for so long if there was an issue in it why was it not mentioned in reviews? Publishers look to reviews so they can edit out whatever they need to make it ready for release and now it's too late for them to do anything even if there is a problem
@Blue811117 жыл бұрын
BoneStudios15 well, I guess most of the readers were white so I don't really expect them see what's the problem. (But emily may did talk about that)
@lightquest27 жыл бұрын
True, so I guess that feeds into the problem as well
@Blue811117 жыл бұрын
Elm Miller, that actually made me laugh lol. Well, i don't think I intend to offend people with that because it's normal for white people to not notice that mistake in the book. like let's assume that you're white and you read something that offends white people. you will immediately notice it, right? But if you're black, you may not notice the problem because it's not towards you. Did you get it? It's just normal and I'm not hating on anyone.

Hi Jesse, I've been following the Carve the Mark discussion and I've heard that a lot of what has been said on Twitter was false and that the "savage" type characters were extremely pale rather than dark skinned (which doesn't make it okay but still worth noting). I personally haven't read it but thought it might be worth pointing out.
@poo39227 жыл бұрын
Molly Maguire why are u attacking Chelsea for trying to get facts clear? Please calm down
@sarahn77277 жыл бұрын
Molly Maguire I'm not sure if you're on Goodreads, but if you are you should look at the review from Emily May for Carve the Mark. She explained the misconceptions about the races in the book. The savage race is pale and the opposite race has light brown skin. However, she talks about the issues with this savage vs gentle race no matter the color of their skin. It is an awesome review and I think everyone wondering about the issues surrounding this book should check it out.
@Spookyreading7 жыл бұрын
Sarah N I agree about Emily's review. She is always quick to call out racism, sexism, and other problematic things. I don't always agree with her opinions on books, but when it comes to problematic issues, I always trust her 100%. I'm actually really interested in reading the book for myself to see where all this confusion stems from. It wouldn't be the first time a large group of people misunderstood the race/color of a character. Just think back to that whole Twitter Rue debacle.
@chelseas13467 жыл бұрын
***** I pointed out that I wasn't sure what was the truth. However, if what I have heard is true and the information being spread is incorrect it is at least worth pointing out. Have you read it? Do you have pictures confirming it is true?
@chelseas13467 жыл бұрын
It was Emily May's review I was referencing that explained the misconceptions on what is being spread. I think it's very possible the original poster got confused on the small details, which is why a lot of the people who read it didn't notice it in the first place.
