I feel your pain Chris... I've lost 3 1/2 stone since June... It was the "beached whale" holiday photos that did it for me! As for where to live, I live on the edge of a large town in the UK.... When we eventually make the move, it will definately be somewhere near a beach!!

I’m with you Skats in a village any day. Can only take a few hours in a city then I need to get out. FOF take care
@youtoospainАй бұрын
Yes, totally. If we had the cash though, we’d have a pied a terre in Malaga for parking and visiting purposes. With a view of the parades so we don’t have to be in the crowds.

Morning chaps hope you're well a big big shout out to Chris and the gang met Tom at the police station yesterday

He’s a good chap that Tom. I met him before I met Chris in person, even though I’d know Chris online for a while online.

Interesting stuff lads, well done. Re city or country, I have to fall in line with Skatz on that one. Being a country bumpkin from the UK (Surrey and Hampshire) I tend to like it quiet around my home. If I want to leave all my valuables that I don't want stolen, take the less valuable car into the annoying traffic and go to the city and find somewhere to park miles away from where I actually want to be, I can do that for a few hours and return to the peaceful life to recover from any outrageous (alcohol free of course- driving) debauchery on the night. Of course, it is also only a matter of time before the battered car will be outlawed in the cities too due to the questionable climate emergency panic response from governments. So I would need to take a more expensive one to be battered or vandalised while parked. I have noticed in Spain despite the fact that we are well served where I live for day-to-day needs when I need something like some building materials or to pick someone up from the airport, the varied sights on the way there can be a joyous experience. So I like being forced to travel by such needs... although if I wasnt so busy with renovations i would be out and about a lot more anyway enjoying the beauty of Spain. I am slightly of the mind that the convenience of city life can lead one to just exist in that comfortable area at a significantly higher cost. Whereas living a bit out of the way gives someone like me with a desire to experience different places, people and lifestyles a reason to get out and about more enjoying the highly visible joys of Spain's natural beauty. And of course, we are not fleeced by businesses having to have us fund their more expensive costs with higher prices for everything and arguably lower quality fresh food than we can get outside of supermarkets in the more rural areas. And then there is the private space. When we were looking for a villa it was clear that we could not get that space by the coast without 7 figures on the hip and despite not even bothering to look, it would be next to impossible in a big city. I guess if you want to eat out a lot on your doorstep, maybe have the freedom to drink when out and use public transport to stay within the law then a city may be a good idea. But that packed in like sardines lifestyle with the noise, pollution and social issues that come with it as a place to have my home (the place to relax) just does not appeal to me at all. Horses for courses as always. 👍

Indeed. We’re in agreement there, except for the importance of climate change, about which we won’t have the absolute proof you need of it’s urgency until we’re both long gone and the south of Spain is a desert. I’ve already got a djellaba and a turban in case I make it

Please keep us posted how cancer will,effect health insurance. It’s been 10 years for me and private insurance denies me. Thanks.

Will do. Tell you what, try out some companies yourself in the meantime for quotes, and arm yourself with this new law. See what they say.

Thanks both. The census for the Spanish enclave I'm moving to next month says there are 52 people living there (or at least registered). Need to get my conversational Spanish up to some semblance of acceptance. It's a 12 minute drive from a farming village with around 4,500 or so. I sure have my fingers crossed for my own health insurance policy but will be talking to Chris week after next.

There are lots of choices of apps to learn Spanish and online teachers too. I found BUSUU good, and I’m investigating a free one that has a different method called Language Transfer. I did lessons with a local teacher too. The best way once you’re here is to immerse yourself in a place where you must speak Spanish.

@youtoospain I've had online conversations weekly for a couple of years but, yes, the "deep end" is the only way to go and that's exactly where I'm heading. Best find some water floats and a dinghy.

Watching from Chicago, but raised in a small town of 4,500. 😃 I like both. Cities have convenience but do come w lots of tourists, and small towns tend to come w people wanting to know too much of my business 🤣 I love all the cities and towns of Spain for beauty, history, art, museums, people, food, etc. Enjoy it all 🇪🇸❤️ And Great news on the final (🤞 🙏) chemo treatment Skatz! 🥳🫶🎊 and Chris.. good luck 🍀 w the diet! ( they suck! 😜 but are temporary 🎉) Take care and FOF!

Sounds like you’d love to live somewhere north of Malaga where there are quite a few small towns and villages, it’s the best of both worlds there. Thanks for your message and all the emoji’s! 😀😀😀😀💪💪💪❤️❤️❤️

We want to alter the perimeter walls of our villa and the work will be done by our UK builder friend. We suspect we need a permit from Mijas council but don’t know how to go about getting one. Can you help with advice please?
@youtoospainАй бұрын
Best thing to do is check the rules with Mijas council, different areas may have different rules and they’ll be able to guide you specifically.
