Clips for the win. I love having painted terrain, but I find it quite boring, and I would much rather put that time and effort into painting characters, which I find much more rewarding, so the idea of pre-painted terrain is very appealing to me.

I'd love to run a Dungeon that transitions from Rocky Caves, through Demonic Caves, into Belly of the Beast for a "Doomablo" descent into hell type adventure!

Terrain looks amazing. I have to say you’re not giving your painting skills enough credit though! When you decide take the time your work is really excellent. Just because you choose to do some things fast doesn’t mean you’re an average painter!

Thanks. That's very kind. I do always like to reiterate though that I am a tabletop quality painter. I generally hold my work up as a standard that is relatively easy to obtain, and which many people can exceed.

Looks neat. BTW,Lego's getting D&D sets soon. Including an official mimic set. Doesn't look as good as yours but it's probably more solidly built. Probably. You know,it's funny,Hasbro had their own brick makers with the Kre-o brand which were actually pretty good. Makes you wonder why they gave it up just to license their stuff out to Lego. Oh well.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
I saw there was some D&D LEGO on the way. I can see myself grabbing a few blind bags, at least. I suppose it's easier money to license out your brands rather than designing, making, and advertising something to compete against the established brick sets. I seem to recall some Kre-o Transformers figures that were pretty good.
@Merlynn1329 ай бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Yeah,but you're also getting less money since all you're getting is license fees,not sales. I guess Hasbro'd rather have the sure thing of license fees than the all or nothing risk of making their own. Still,if they were going to license,I wish they'd have gone with Mega. But then,they're own line of medieval fantasy toys didn't do so hot,which is a shame cause they were really cool.

I'm thinking Advanced HeroQuest Redux with these tiles.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
I've certainly thought about it. The numbers don't quite work (a D&L tile is 2x5, for example) so that requires a few adjustments, and it takes stacks of the terrain, not least to make the rooms, but I am going to give it a go at some point.

BUt you CAN'T get the abomination vaults or dwarven mine in gamefound.....I know cos I've been looking forward to getting them painted......Unless you can see something I can't?
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The samples I received were more just to evidence the kind of quality achievable with PrismaCast. The focus of the campaign is definitely more on the new cave terrain. However, the Dwarven Mine set is already available to buy right now from the Archon Studio website and the Advanced Dwarven Mine is available as an add-on in the Gamefound campaign. It's my understanding that they will be adding more legacy sets to the pledge manager, but I will check back in with Archon to see if I can confirm that for you.

Now, please take this as it is meant. Don't use neutral greys for stone and rock. It's just one little tip, but it opens the eyes of a good painter.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
You will find a lot of the painting I do on the channel is intended to show people quick and easy ways to get things done for the tabletop. I'm trying to make this side of the hobby more accessible to those people who think they can't do it. If you are specifically referring to my Abomination Vaults, they were painted using a very simple technic to emulate in a simple way the official colour scheme from the box to get through masses of sprues as soon as possible. I don't actually often paint rock in grey.

Your work looks better. It is just a different choice of colors and D&L has more grainy airbrushing and more dirt and color effects. Not saying any of them are bad just that I prefer the gray walls with smooth drybrushing more.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
That's very kind of you. The D&L terrain is great to work with. If anyone decides to go with the unpainted terrain, my painting should give them an idea of what is possible without being an expert painter. The pre-painted stuff is really going to save a lot of time, though. The City of Absalom set was really time-consuming to paint, so it would be nice to see them pre-paint that one too!

Goes to gather GREAT, Falls apart easily. I have the first 3 KS, I have a TON of them. But building a dungeons has to be done before game and left on the table. It's not like you can move them around easy without them falling apart
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
I have to say, I've never had issues with anything I built falling apart - using a double length wall to bridge the point where two floor tiles connect works really well for improving the build strength. Sometimes I think the side clips hold the walls too securely! I tend to place larger assemblies on a board to move in one piece, or I just separate large maps into several smaller chunks at the points where only a single double connector is employed.
@johnmiddleton42919 ай бұрын
These look weirdly grainy to me if the same way as crappy zenithal stuff. I had to keep refocusing on other things to make sure it wasn't just the video. The bloodspatter stuff is a bit overdone too. Did the entire town get killed inside there or did the monsters buy extra blood from the DIY for decorating? The real truth is that these are not actual pre-painted. An artist paints the master, scans it into a printer, and then the tiles are printed onto using high impact inks. I think that's where the graininess comes from. Many other reviews have popped up on these and there is lots of variation shown, even on single sprues, so they likely randomize each element on a frame from a library of scanned masters, Interesting technology but it's rather expensive for something that's mostly just computer printed after molding. I always pick out stones in different colors for stone walls and such when painting as it really makes them pop more than a single color.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
Yes, you can read about PrismaCast on the campaign page. They take the digital imaging of the painter's work and then the machines apply thin coats of UV paint to the sprues. Archon are saying they can offer a lot of unique patterns, so you shouldn't end up with all of your Abomination Vault tiles being soaked with blood!
@johnmiddleton42919 ай бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoringYeah, it's a UV cured ink. Pretty cool. Developed for printing on vinyl banners and such. Be tough to adapt the technology to 3d minis, but that would be a cool thing. I've seen prototypes of 3d printers that can color the resin extrusion as you print and blend between areas too. They are super expensive and used for product prototyping now but eventually it could mean 3d printing stuff already fully colored with shadows and highlights. Not sure what we would spend our time on them. Maybe we could take up dune buggy racing?
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
Technology is getting pretty crazy. Won't it be fun when we can play our games using 3D-printed pieces, painted (or already made in colour) by machines, and written and illustrated by AI? I might finally have time to play a video game.

Nah. The unpainted stuff is pretty much the cheapest terrain you can get (that isnt DIY or ugly), and its still the cheapest option among prepaints. Plus, it stores really well. Dwarven Forge or Warlock tiles are waaaaay more expensive.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
Pre-painted stuff always comes with a not-insignificant cost, but I think Archon are offering a pretty reasonable price point here. For example, Renegade are just bringing back HeroScape and the pre-painted master set for that game is $100 more expensive than the unpainted master set, and that's just for 20 figures.
@TheAnon269 ай бұрын
Plus, 3d terrain is always going to be a nice but ultimately unnecessary purchase. A game isnt better or worse for it. Just like using minis isnt a necessity. Its just how hobbies work.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring9 ай бұрын
Ultimately, everyone will value things differently. For some people terrain, never mind prepainted terrain, is an unnecessary luxury, while others will want to paint it themselves. I like painting, but don't get a lot of enjoyment out of drybrushing 50 segments of wall, so for me prepainted terrain is appealing. Furthermore, in tabletop games, particularly skirmish games, I always talk about the terrain being the extra player, and being able to create lots of different varied worlds and battlefields is important to me. For example, I wouldn't play something like Rangers of Shadow Deep without the miniatures and terrain.
