The number of cards that can be drawn off of just Hipatra and Yawgmoth is limited both by life total and the total toughness in play of the creatures minus the one you are sacrificing (the snake) and not including the final toughness on Hipatra and Yawgmoth. So in this case the opponent could draw 11 cards. If they find a young wolf, then it is 16 and a blood artist would win at that point. Semantics obviously though as just the 11 card advantage is more than enough to win in most cases. Note: I removed this comment earlier because I thought I had made a mistake since Yawgmoth’s -1/-1 counter is optional, but you have to place the -1/-1 counter to get a snake to sacrifice.

I'm glad Mox Opal is back, it was a bad ban when it got the hammer. It died for Urza's sins (like way too many others), as well as Arcum's Astrolabe, which also got the banhammer later. They just didn't want to admit at the time that Modern Horizons was a mistake.

If nothing else, Opal is getting people revisiting my favorite decks and archetypes. Ive seen half a dozen different flavors of traditional 8 cast affinity, tamiyo triggering Kappa, Urza Thopter, and even hanmertime. Bloodmoon into meltdown is a beating that feels like legacy, but if I can register something affinity adjacent with a straight face then Im happy. Now I just need an Opal reprint

Yaknow, when i first started watching legacy content i though this deck was kinda cheap, cheap like strategy not cost. Since becoming a lot more enfranchised ive frown to appreciate it a lot more. Its an interesting strategy, has clearer defined counters with artifact stuff, uses fair beats to win, and is a lot more fun than many a deck I've seen. I also like its blend of tempo control kinda stuff, not really feeling like it is ever 1 or the other.

Seeing affinity back with Opal is awesome, but I don’t think it’s going to have much of a competitive impact. The really scary Opal deck is Breach. That deck, even though it lost Ring, got a gigantic boost with Opal legal. Curious to see you run that in the future.
