It is. Also you don't get quarter full tanks you can't really use too as you can just fill them up. Obviously the gas stove lights easier (mort of the time) and that is what I fry the bacon on (it has a broader flame) but I do like the Primus and have just fixed the Hurlock. Ben, your bench looks like a less filthy more interesting version of mine. Kero in everything but wick fed burners seems to be ok, like you say paraffin (lamp oil in the US?) Is just too expensive to set ablaze.

Love those paraffin/kerosene stoves Ben, particularly the Hurlock - I nearly bought one of those at a show last year, and kind of wished I had bought it ever since. I used my Primus to cook bacon sarnies for lunch today - totally yummy. The non return valve on my primus failed last year and it was stuck in solid - wouldn't come out with the correct tool or a couple of improvised tools - whatever washer was installed down there had decomposed into something akin to glue. Ended up having to unsolder and remove the entire pump tube, and even then it still wouldn't budge. Finally had to very carefully drill out the remains of the valve before re soldering the pump tube in place and fitting a new valve - well worth the effort though, cos it's back working like a dream. Hope you had/are having a good day out in the field.

I did have a good time apart from the occasional bad spot of rain, it was filmed a couple of weeks ago. One of the good things about the Hurlock is that you would not have had to have un-soldered the pump tube. Having just fixed it (video will be coming) it unscrews and you take the valve off the back. That sounds like quite an involved repair on your part. Many thanks for watching!

@@BensWorkshop Yeah, the rain seems to have been a regular visitor to many of the shows so far this year - maybe it'll be better from now on. I had a feeling the Hurlock pump might just unscrew from seeing your footage - that's a nice bonus - looking forward to that video. I approached mine with a certain amount of trepidation, but it was useless as it was so I couldn't make it any worse! In the end it went pretty well - I would have made a video but I didn't want to jinx the job - I'm rather fond of that little stove.

@@BensWorkshop Rightly or wrongly I just used some vintage rosin core solder - I tend to buy up rolls of old solder when I see it at house clearance sales and the like - it's better than the modern lead free stuff.....with the obvious bit of care required due to the lead fumes and so on.
