Sparks on the back of that drill just means it's not a brushless motor. It's brushed, they do spark, and its 100% normal. They all (brushed motors) do it regardless of brand or quality.
@DennisTea
@DennisTea 2 жыл бұрын
It is normal, but the sparks are caused by carbon dust from the brush arcing out inside the drill. While it is normal, the brushes in drills like that wear out fast and need replaced. You can tell a cheaper brushed drill from a quality one from the amount of sparks inside. A quality brushed drill needs the brush replaced after 60 hours of use and makes less sparks. Brushless drills are cheap enough today that you should get them instead. Just around 1/4 more expensive than a brushed drill. Minimal wear and friction means the battery lasts longer as well.

Make sure you don't get a pressure washer with a "wobble" pump - they fail. The second best is an "axial" pump. The BEST is a "Triplex" pump. @@ferfrdfsfwf I know what you mean, but my brushed motors usually don't spark for the first 6 or so months. When originally manufactured it is supposed to not spark, or at least as much, as that isn't as efficient. Like I said, it really doesn't change a whole of a lot. You would need to really try some serious testing to find a difference. In the video Scotty was using a brushless DeWalt, and of course it didn't spark. True, except Ryobi are crap. You can't buy any spare parts for any of their stuff. I had their petrol hedgcutter and found one of the three cyclinder head bolts had never been fitted, then the coil failed after 13 months anyway. A guy at a garden machinery workshop laughed when I asked about a spare coil. Threw it away and got a Stihl.

AEG, Ryobi, and Milwaukee are owned by Techtronic Industries of Hong Kong, an original equipment manufacturer for Stanley Black & Decker (Dewalt, Porter-Cable, Craftsman, etc), Makita Kabushiki-gaisha (Makita, etc), and Emerson Electric (Ridgid, etc). The links between the various tool companies are vast and complex, and change constantly. Good luck figuring it all out.

The Bauer hand drill I bought from Harbor Freight looks similar to the one Scotty disses, but has served me well for 4 years. It wasn't super-cheap, ~$60 on sale, not like the Black & Decker Xmas specials which don't seem to last since you see them stacked up in thrift stores w/ bad batteries.

Black and Decker meant you had a quality tool a long time ago. I have a corded Black and Decker circular saw that I purchased 25 years ago. It still works great. I wouldn't buy one from them now,though.

@@oneobserver2260 They still make quality tools; they call em DeWalt. They pushed into the DIYer space and sullied their reputation so they sold their high quality tools through the DeWalt name. I've worked with many contractors as a construction electrician. About 85% of them use Milwaukee and/or DeWalt 👍 sometimes you'll see a Rigid tool or something in there somewhere and some of those other brands are ok but when you have a bunch of guys using the tools all day every day and treating them like a rental, everybody knows the Red and Yella ones are what you buy.

Dewalt is owned by the same company as black and decker. Milwaukee is owned by TTI a Hong Kong company that also owns Ryobi and Ridgid. Any tools in the upper tiers should perform quite well. eg. Bosch blue, Milwalkee, Makita (upper models)...

Typical hysterical ranting from Scotty. Literally shows a working drill and says the sparking mean it's on the verge of being broken. 😆 If you listened to Scotty about everything you'd be walking to work and turning screws with your fingernails. I have a vintage Skil brushed drill from the 1960s that belonged to my dad and he used it my whole life until I ended up with it. Built like a tank and it also sparked like a fireworks display, and it still worked for decades. Out of curiosity to see if I could reduce the sparking, I replaced the brushes and cleaned the commutator to restore the area that sparks back to clean condition. And guess what? It still sparks, and it still runs just fine even though it's 80 years old. BuT tEh SpArKinG mUsT MeAn iT's a cHeAp dRilLL 🤡

I agree with you about the Chinese drills, though I go Milwaukee all the way. The Mavics though, are the best of a bad bunch, by a huge margin. I'd send it back and get them to fix it. I have had DJI stuff for years and it generally works well, but like anything, sometimes you get a bad one. They definitely have their issues, but as I said, they literally have no competition... they are a $150,000 Audi and their closest competition is $10,000 Kia.
