Pre Spawn Cold Front Fly Fishing for Monster Bass on the Fly Rod Eel prproj

Even in Central Florida it can get cold in winter which is the beginning of Spawning Season. Some bass may be spawning, but they may not be that active or aggressive until warmer weather returns. Fishing topwater can still work, but usually for a shorter period of the day. To catch a big one, you still must connect time, place, and technique. Subsurface techniques can extend that window of time for acceptance, and it can actually be a more acceptable offering --- further raising the odds of an actual strike from a marginally interested bass. That raises your odds of success in two of the equational factors for success. Being in the right place for spawning bass, even pre-spawn or nearby, is the best you can probably do under the current colder weather conditions. As the weather warms through the day, some of the big bass on beds or hanging around while looking for beds may suddenly respond. You can alternate between slowly bouncing the bottom for spawners and staying on the move looking for bass that may be getting active as the day warms up. Capt. Ken’s favorite fly rod eel is very versatile. and it allows him to fish the surface, just below the surface, drop it to the bottom or bounce it along the bottom. Often marginally excited bass, especially in spawning season, will chase after lures, but not inhale them, unless they drop toward the bottom to hide. In this video, Capt. Ken is moving along in the kayak fairly quick, looking for an active bass, by “waking” the wiggling eel just below the surface. The big bass does not accelerate to inhale the eel, so he drops it down toward the bottom to hide, which triggers the big bass to inhale before it disappears into the grass. By the way, these durable Eels have scent and taste impregnated into the tail material and infused into the matted fur and bucktail on the body. One quick taste and they gobble it down. He was much appreciated. Caught a 4 lb'er right after that with a smaller flyrod and a smaller Eel. Probably would have skunked without the Eel until warmer afternoon temps arrived.

I really like your bass lures. this fish fascinates me I use flyrod for bass in southern of France models from whitlock: watersnakes diver, swimming frog. Really deadly for bass,your technics is amazing (weedgard and action lures)
