Having acesses to a weapon to quickly handle shooter swarms has finally opened up Ogryn for me. I love playing the lad and rping as a bodyguard, but the prevalence of ranged enemies just made the shield feel like the only real option to survive. Now, I take the Heavy Stubber and Pickaxe and get to feel like the world's largest multitool. Truly blessed by the Emperor are we.

Its a very good weapon, but you can also handle shooters with dodge-slide and aggression by locking them in melee. Not always possible so thats where this weapon solves the gap.

Opening salvo is ridiculously nice on Achlys. You pair it with Surgical instead of the Critweakspot damage blessing and suddenly you now have a decent overall damage bonus for the price of losing the preposterous overkill damage on hitting enemy weakspot crits. The only type of enemy which would make +100% critweakspot damage bonus viable is the boss type.

Yeah I was shocked to see them put it in dumpster tier. I think they were showing how often it procs to try and make it look bad but honestly I had no idea it could re-trigger that fast, that's basically free +20% all the time if you're pacing your shots at all. I guess it's a sign of their playstyle because they seem to strongly prefer stuff that rewards mag-dumping which is a bit different compared to the other impressions I've seen with these weapons, that seem to value them more as marksman weapons that can occasionally magdump.

I consider it bad because I need my weapon to come out fast and I need it to kill specialists. Blasting carapace or unyielding isn't that interesting to me and I didn't see, in my testing, value over crit weakspot for 2 tap ammo efficiency advantage with deadly accurate. Maybe there's other ways to run it but I can't test everything.

Opening Salvo is essential to Achlys. Without it you are missing out on 1 crit bodyshot on Flamers and Dreg Gunners, 2 crit bodyshot on Maulers. Deadly Accurate only gets you Rager crit headshot 1 shots and saves 1 shot on Crushers and Reapers, rest it just overkills. Overwhelming Fire is also rather bad because it triggers only after second hit on same target, thus impacting only third shot and up, giving little benefit beyond the heaviest enemies. Also if you happen to cleave through a second target, before or after hitting your primary target, the buff will reset to zero.

TIP AND TRICK: I didn't check the other marks but a crit with the Achlys to a bulwark's exposed bits will stagger them moving the shield aside even with 60 collateral.

Finally a way to get rid of snipers that hold pixel angels for my boi Ogryn. Currently I enjoy the Gorgonum the most as it has great zoom and way less recoil than the Achlys when fireing quickly down sight. All three look bonkers though. There is something about an Ogryn wielding an MG or small caliber cannon as an assault rifle or battle rifle.

Been saying the ogryn needed an autocannon or equivalent, it's a piece that can take a beating, so it's perfect for an ogryn... hope they go the full way and implement one soon and give it a small clip and just break the windows with the sound. OOooh I remember having one of these in my Leman Russ kit as a kid. This is the "good" Heavy Stubber which is issued to the Imperial Guard which has... really long range. It was the old 4th edition default Leman Russ pintle weapon, which replaced the default 3rd edition Storm Bolter. Couldn't penetrate sh** at only AP 6, but had the highest firepower rate of all the Heavy Weapons (Heavy 3! So it fired 3 shots, you could use this thing to snipe HQ units!) with a massive range of 36" and was actually comparative to a Boltgun at Strength 4... but it is a heavy, which means anyone with Toughness less than 4 just died! Meaning that it pretty much shredded any squads which were not Space Marines or Tyranids in a 36" 280 degree arc. At only 5 points in cost. Basically it was a weaker cheaper Multilas.

@@Reginald-sc9tk I also mainly used it for it's intended purpose and why GW balanced the Guard with it, to deal with screens. Basically, there was a rule the game used to have that was removed in 5th edition but was there from 3rd through to 4th that was heavily abused, can't shoot at units behind units. So Ork players would screen boyz with gretchin, Necrons would screen Warriors with Scarab swarms and the most annoying, T'au would screen Firewarriors and Tanks with Kroot. The Heavy Stubber is the answer to this cheese, it allowed me to punch a hole through the Kroot line so I could fire the cannon at the T'au tanks. it was a "stop gap" fix by GW until they released 5th edition a year later.

I actually like the Krourk with Opening Salvo + Pinning Fire flak and unarmoured on my ogryn with 0 ranged talents. Hit the break to 1 shot body shot the little dregs with guns, the CD time is what I need to line up the next target and if a bunch of them are on top of each other pinning fire will make up the difference. It's not bad vs gunners either 3 body shots or 1 head 1 body and it's quick and easy to rapid tap the second head then body shot. That said after a dozen games I went back to the Gorgon twin linked. I want to be able to move and fire and still hit things.

I disagree with how you say Opening Salvo is bad when I saw someone test it on the Achlys Mk 2 to get one shot headshots on gunners and specialists even without a +25% dmg to Maniac or a boost to crit chance. Opening Salvo will be really helpful on shock troop gauntlet.

This gun is so disappointing. The max amount of ammo you can have is with the krourk mark and its only 200 rounds. If any ogryn wants to use this thing to snipe and be a long range gun lugger can easily be screwed over by any vet running a reacon las or a plasma gun and not to mention if theres a gunpsyker (and vice versa since they'll all be pining for ammo and we all know how that normally goes) in the match. The fact that this is currently the only gun with a flashlight is ridiculous and that along with the nerf to the gunlugger build is just salt on a wound

I dont like the way they switched up the ogryn tree, once again nerfing ogryn and especially heavy hitter ogryns. We will now have an extra skill point but outside of maybe some extra toughness I dont really know where that one point goes. Also now if you want steady grip with a gunlugger build you have to path through towering presence which imo just a wasted skill point. Pretty insane they keep nerfing ogryn. I get that theyre trying to promote rumbler gunlugger ogryn but rumblers only have 27 ammo in the magazine. Also the fact that they want you to now choose between extra ammo and big boom is a bit absurd if you ask me. Its a problem that only 2/3 ogryn builds have access to that ammo node in the first place but now if you want big boom you have to make some choices at that point in the tree. Just seems weird to me they keep changing the tree when the entire tree needs overhauled anyway.

@@battlecruiserna how is stacking heavy hitter difficult when the entire class is based on heavy attacks as well as the multiple nodes for it at the top of the tree. Ive never seen a no keystone ogryn build nor would I ever play with one.
