Perfect! I’m a diode user that uses a honeycomb bed which covers my waste board. I’ve recently started working in Absolute Coordinates on the 29” Eiffel Tower in the Engrave and Cut files. I’ve never taken advantage of the centering of the work icon in the upper tools (arrange long). I purposely got the 12”x12” Basswood for the tower to have extra strips of it for exactly the honeycomb bed pins because I wasn’t careful and my laser went over the hold-down pins… breaking them. This will take care of that and I’ll use a template and strips to make more pins. Those magnets are so strong that if they get close and connect to each other it’s a pain to separate them, but they work too. Anyway, thank you Rich for another great tutorial. Will now make good use of all the smaller scrap laying around.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

Awesome Jeffrey! I cut my hold down pins from 1.5mm basswood or any other thin material for just that purpose, so they snap off if hit. It keep from ruining the job, so the laser can just keep doing its thing.

Another excellent video. I have created a foam board template which is made of 1/8 inch thick foam board. I then pinned foam down to a backing board. I burned 9- approx. 4 inch circles into the foam and removed the off cuts. Now all I have to do is drop the coasters into the circles of the foam, line up the graphics inside the tool path for the 9 circle grid and burn. Remove the coasters from the foam drop in 9 more and burn again....

Nice video as always. I have an offline laser that I use without a near by computer so what I do is the same you did but without the card board. So the same circle you created for the coaster I make it do 4 to 5 passes at a slow speed about 600 to 800mm per MIN so I'll have plenty of time to perfectly align it before it starts the actual engraving. I have my power output on the lowest setting that my machine allows to show the laser as a guide which on my machine is a (.4). So it runs as 1 job the first layer does the aligning then it'll start the engraving job

Rich, I have a quick question. Background, I just received a OLM3 so I don't know if my process is the same as yours. I've assembled it but not installed LB yet. I thought you had to focus the laser to the project using the measuring pin on the laser. I didn't see you do that when you put the basswood on the bed for the cut. When you specifically selected the basswood, 2 or 3mm on the dropdown menu does that automatically set the focus?

Love your videos sir. I've noticed that my X-Tool doesn't always go back to the exact location after it goes to the Home position. In other words, I can make a template like this and run a job but once it completes and returns Home, there's no guarantee that template is going to work perfectly for the next run. I always frame and check it very closely. Maybe it's just an X-Tool flaw.

The thickness of the wood only matters if you're joining it, like making a box for example.

On a Lightburn camera? Just pull down the drop down menu and select the camera. If you want a screenshot as an overlay only for the workspace click update overlay,

Off topic question. Running macOS using supplied cable using an USB-A to USB-C adapter. Xtool D1 10 w I also posted on your forum. Thanks for the great videos by the way! The only software that connects is XTool Creative Space. It runs on this software. I am unable to get so lightburn or laser box software to discover D1. Kind of weird seeing how laser box and creative space is the same developer. I think. any help would be appreciated.

How does this work if you do not have limit switches on your unit? Such as in the Xtool D1
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Жыл бұрын
You set and save a position on the move tab at 0/0. That saved position is your "home". Before you use the D1 and power it on, manually move the module to the 0/0 position. Turn on the machine and it knows it's at 0/0. Now you can use absolute coordinates to run your jobs as long as you *never move the laser by hand!* Any time you need to rehome the laser, just go the Move tab and choose the 0/0 position you set and clickl Go. A laser module is not meant to be moved by hand and I wish xTool would stop demonstrating that way!

when marking the paper, I guess it is trial & error to get the correct power setting, as I have a X20 pro, and I have found that your power settings for other things seem to be a little higher than what I need, this thing really burns & cuts, most of the cutting I have done has been to much on the power, I have started tuning it down, and found that I can cut 3mm ply at 70 % , and 1 pass, I do need 80-90 to do 5mm solid wood like the coin chip you do, but thinking about cutting that back to about 60% and 2 passes.

Forgive me, I am new to the laser game. The No Camera, No Problem tag. I've watched the video and understand what to do if I have a camera, but what if I don"t? Am I missing something? The example shown produces a result that uses the camera for the initial setup and then goes on. The engraving of the cats is naturally going to be right where you want it because the wood is in the same place as the initial setup that used the camera. I know it sounds like I am splitting hairs here, and I appreciate your videos. Just trying to get that alignment thing mastered without a camera.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Жыл бұрын
No, no camera is necessary, that was the entire point of the video! cover the bed in cardboard or paper, run a square, rectangle or circle anywhere on the bed the size of your work piece so it makes an outline, and drop the real work piece into the template. I only used the camera so you could see the process.

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Understood! I was waiting for the part of the video where no camera was used. My error. Thank you for the clarification. Your videos are immensely helpful. One other question. How long would you say it takes to become proficient in the operation of a medium to large size co2 laser? I've had my Nova 63 a little over a month.?

I would probably cut the cardbord and not engrave it and then cut my peaces of wood etc. above the cardbord. Have done it the other way and my cardbord catched fire. :) Also this way the air can flow through the honeycomb under the cardbord and you get no burnmarks. #winwin
